The recreational Gag Grouper season in Louisiana state and federal waters opens Sept. 1, 2026, and runs through Sept. 30, closing at 12:01 a.m. Oct. 1 in federal waters.

The recreational Greater Amberjack season in federal waters of the Gulf opens Sept. 1, 2026, and remains open through Oct. 13, closing at 12:01 a.m. Oct. 14.

The 43-day Greater Amberjack season is longer than the 26-day season in 2025. Following the Oct. 14 closure, recreational harvest in federal waters will remain closed until the 2027โ€“28 fishing season begins Sept. 1, 2027.

๐—š๐—ฎ๐—ด ๐—š๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ด๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€:

ยท Minimum size: 24 inches total length
ยท Bag/possession limit: 2 gag per person, per day within the four-grouper aggregate
ยท Aggregate limit: 4 grouper per person, per day

The four-grouper aggregate includes speckled hind; black, red, snowy, yellowedge, yellowfin, yellowmouth and warsaw grouper; gag; and scamp.

Additional aggregate restrictions:
ยท No more than 1 speckled hind and 1 warsaw grouper per vessel, per day
ยท No more than 2 red grouper per person, per day within the aggregate bag limit
