She had prayed about whether to say no to something that was hurting her. And she felt guilty either way.
She had been taught that love means giving without limit. So she gave. Until there was almost nothing left of her.
This is one of the most consequential myths inside Christian women's healing: that a boundary is a wall built from selfishness. It isn't. A boundary is the shape of how God made you β a person with limits, with a body that signals distress, with a spirit that needs protection to remain whole.
Scripture doesn't ask you to disappear for others. Proverbs 4:23 says, "Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Guarding is not selfishness. It is stewardship of the self He knit together.
Your body already knows. The tight chest before you say yes. The dread in your stomach on the drive over. The exhale that finally comes when the door closes behind you. That's not weakness. That's a nervous system trying to keep you whole.
You are allowed to honor what He built into you. You are allowed to say no and still be Beloved. Still Known. Still Held.
If this is the belief that has kept you small, our course Boundaries God's Way was built for you. Message us the word GUARD and we'll share where to begin. π
