Maridee was recently in the shop, sharing stories about how she found her perfect bicycle at Granny’s. She was excited to have found what she called her “forever bicycle.”

Maridee had a presence whenever she walked through our doors. She knew exactly what she wanted, and we were always happy to help make it happen. For a long time, she wouldn’t let anyone but Brian work on her bike, and over time she grew to trust the other skilled professionals on our team as well. She always came in smiling, often with a determined seriousness that reflected who she was.

I didn’t know all the things I know about her now. I didn’t know she was such a force to be reckoned with. Like so many people we cross paths with in life, we don’t always get the chance to hear every story or build the connections we wish we had before someone is gone.

I hope Maridee’s stories and legacy live on through her friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, and even people like us—those who may not have known her deeply, but always knew when she walked through the door.
〰️
Her passing is a tragic reminder of the risks cyclists face every day and of how important advocacy and road safety are for everyone who uses our shared roads. At the shop, we do our part by looking for the small details—the overlooked maintenance, the worn components, the expired helmets, and the repairs needed to keep riders safe. We see the vulnerabilities that many drivers never have to think about. We see the distractions, the rush, and the preventable tragedies that can result.

We all have a responsibility to be more present. To protect riders. To protect our children, families, friends, neighbors, mothers, and fathers. If we slow down, eliminate distractions, and approach our roads with greater care and mindfulness, more people can make it home safely.

We are heartbroken that Maridee was tragically killed, and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating loss. May her memory inspire greater awareness, safer roads, and a deeper commitment to looking out for one another.

Spring is here and we are anticipating hitting the ground running this season! It is a strange time to close but when you are a small shop you gotta preserve some sanity somehow, so we are taking a break before the busiest time of the year arrives. We are open today until 6pm for any last minute tubes or accessories you may need to survive next week without us. Do not despair, we will return promptly on April 15th! Get ahead of the curve NOW and schedule your services online. We are running shop with a solo technician all summer long, so plan ahead! Scheduling is easy, link in bio! Hey friends 👋

This is our longest update of the year (promise it’s worth it). We’re sharing a few shop updates, a look ahead to 2026, and how you can help us keep bikes rolling smoothly all season. Be sure to scroll through the infographics!

First off—thank you. Independent bike shops are disappearing everywhere, and on an island like ours, having a local shop for repairs, service, and trusted advice really matters. We’re grateful to still be here because of this incredible community.

Vashon Bikes remains committed to quality service, expert care, and keeping you riding strong, healthy, and smiling year-round. Bikes keep us moving and connected, and we’re excited to fuel that stoke into 2026 🚲✨

A few team updates:
• Nate and Ben have moved on—we’re thankful for their time with us
• Brian continues as lead tech, bringing skill and care to every bike
• Tori and Deja are holding things down up front, though Tori will be with us only until early summer as she heads to grad school (we’ll miss her!)

One friendly ask as we head into the new year: **please book your bike service early.** Scheduling tune-ups, overhauls, and builds now helps us manage the busy summer season, keep turnaround times reasonable, and stay available for safety-critical repairs when riding peaks.
