Every Veteran’s Day, we do a Hero workout called “Chad.” Most of you know it well: 1000 Box Step-ups for time.
This workout is written in honor of Navy SEAL Senior Chief Chad Wilkonson who died by su***de on Oct. 29, 2018.
Prior to his death, Chad used the workout to train to climb mountains like Cerro Aconcagua, South America’s highest peak.
Every year, we complete this workout together in honor of Chad, to support each other, and to bring awareness to the epidemic of su***de, particularly among our veterans.
We’re all stronger together, especially when we do challenging things in community with one another.
This year, we will be doing “Chad” on Saturday, November 8th. Everyone’s invited.
We have several options for the workout:
In the Gym Option:
1000 Box Step-ups at regular Saturday class times: 7:30, 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00.
This workout is also great for kids and families too, everyone is welcome.
Weight (or no weight) and box height can be scaled to all levels.
If you want to carry weight, consider bringing a ruck, backpack, vest, or use a sandbag at the gym.
Outside the Gym Option:
If you want to do your step-ups outside the gym this year, we are meeting at Dog Mountain Trailhead at 8:00 AM for a CFV team hike. The hike is 6 miles, includes 2824 feet of elevation gain, and does require a NW Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass or $5 daily fee to park at the trailhead. Vest, ruck, weighted backpacks are all optional. Hydration and snacks recommended. If anyone would like to carpool, groups will be leaving the gym at 6:45 AM Saturday morning. It is likely to be chilly and weather can be unpredictable in the gorge, so please dress accordingly.
Veteran’s Day Option:
If you’re unable to participate on Saturday or just can’t get enough step-ups, you’re welcome to do “Chad” on Veterans Day in the gym.
We’ll be open for all regular classes from 5:00 AM until 7:30 PM, so you’ll have plenty of time to get it done.
