The college game is exposing people right now…hitters aren’t scared of your velocity anymore. Not 75. Not 77. They’ll foul it off, sit on it, square it up…do damage on it. So if your whole identity is “I throw hard”…you’re already in trouble.
Look yourself dead in the mirror and answer it honestly—do you actually want to be a PITCHER or just someone who throws hard and hopes it works? Because those are two completely different athletes. Velocity might get you noticed, cool…but it won’t save you when hitters start timing your ass up pitch after pitch. And that’s exactly what’s happening everywhere.
I’ve seen it too many times—kids dominate early just blowing it by people…then get to college and get exposed because they never learned how to disrupt timing, never learned how to change speeds, never built a real weapon outside of “throw it harder.” That doesn’t play anymore.
If you don’t have a changeup you TRUST…you’re not ready. If you can’t throw it in a 2-0 count…you’re not ready. If you only go to it when you’re desperate…you’re REALLY not ready. Your changeup isn’t a backup plan…it should p**s hitters off. It should wreck timing so bad they start guessing. That’s pitching.
Because the truth? Velocity alone doesn’t dominate anymore…it gets exposed. The ones who actually deal are the ones who can make 77 feel like 90 and 60 in the same at-bat. Change speeds or get hit.
