There’s a big push in my Buddhist group for flipping a longstanding script. Regarding the way we organize and think about ourselves as human beings co-existing together.

It’s about one my favorite subjects
of all time—LEADERSHIP💫

For a long time…years…We have been trained to operate together in this paradigm, where we give instant authority to the older generation and expect the younger ones to follow in our footsteps. As if older people somehow, at some point, get to a place where they are no longer susceptible to the fallibilities of the human condition.

In the words of one of my favorite musicians, Bob Dylan 🎶✨🎤 💫

Come gather ‘round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin’
And you better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’

My Buddhist group emphasizes the importance of looking to the YOUNGER GENERATION as the true leaders of our time. Of course, life experience and wisdom accrued over time demands that we heed the guidance and insight of those among us who are willing to share and have been walking the path for a long time.

The young woman featured above in the video is at least ten years my junior. If I didn’t have this ☝️ kind of wherewithal & understanding—I would be in deep water right now. We have shared values, she sees the bigger picture, she’s got me beat(hand over fist !)when it comes to how to manage the business of being human on the ground level—with respect to how important it is that we enable others to win, too.

Professionalism, humility, & sincerity is how she leads. She is 💯 percent a model for me and I move forward, striving to maintain a youthful heart & growing in wisdom(I don’t always win on this account but I’m doing my best!😂)

When we enable the people around us to win, we also win. Speaking of winning in life, Carissa Fitzgerald is also an incredible singer. I saw her perform live recently 🤯🎼✨. I was so excited I couldn’t stop wriggling in my seat and taking videos. Check her out this Saturday 9/12 at 4-

“Never for an instant forget the effort to renew your life, to build yourself anew. Creativity means to push open the heavy, groaning doorway of life itself. This is not an easy task. Indeed, it may be the most severely challenging struggle there is. For opening the door to your own life is in the end more difficult than opening the door to all the mysteries of the universe.“

-Daisaku Ikeda (1928-2023) was a Buddhist philosopher, peacebuilder, educator, author and poet

DRISHTI (Point of Focus)

This is an amazing technique for building a therapeutic Yoga or Functional Movement Practice. Utilizing “Drishti” exercises our concentration powers! This is helpful these days, as we are being trained to have an 8-second attention span…courtesy of the age of technology—with our cooperation😉.

It also supports our efforts to take the reins on the CNS (Central Nervous System), and helps us develop and refine the mind-body connection.

The mind and the body are already connected! This is a practical truth of what it means to walk around living in these physical bodies of ours. Whether we are aware of this is another story. In our Western culture (💯 percent expected)— we have to continuously work to cultivate the mind-body connection because of how we live. So many distractions! Your boss or employees want something from you, the kids, your spouse..there’s also and a million and one ways we’ve invented to self-soothe and keep us comfortable, so we can get by without really engaging in this kind of (rewarding) personal work.

The master key is PRACTICE. Ultimately, we are our own best healers and teachers.

So back to the techniques, go back to your good habits. Allow yourself the grace to fall out and get back in. We can always bring the attention back to the point of focus, back to ourselves, back to the work so we can enjoy the well-deserved fruits of our labor in this Life.

Personally?! I used to fall out of these yoga postures like it was my JOB—so many times that I no longer take it personally, I don’t judge myself, I just get back in because that’s how you get the benefit. That kind of attitude makes a lot of space for growth and healing. How hopeful is that?!

The practice of self-observation, bringing ourselves back to the point of focus( your life) and integrating the techniques for cultivating happy physiological state, using positive stress(eustress). It is this attitude and approach to Yoga or Functional Movement Practice provides a useful container to connect with ourselves as a habit for the purpose of healing and progress.

I had the great fortune to work with Andy for about a year. High-achieving, good man with a soulful sensibility of his own life and environment. I really enjoyed having him as a client. What a seeking mind he has! I loved our conversations and looked forward to our sessions each week. He had an impressive ability to shift gears back and forth from being a receptive student to embodying the kind of volition & leadership needed to successfully build a Home Yoga Practice.

Andy moved to California for a promotion. While I was happy for him, I was sad to lose a client who valued what I have to offer to the extent he did.

Clients like this change the game for me. It helps me have the faith and confidence to keep going. If you are a yoga teacher, you know how good it is to hear and feel encouraged by this kind of validation. That said—it’s even MORE rewarding to witness the progress and success of our students. Because that constitutes the undeniable truth that we all really can trust our own lives…each and every one of us has what it takes inside to be our own best teachers and healers.

Andy is the kind of client who makes it all worthwhile. Full time yoga teaching is NOT an easy gig, but it’s so fulfilling that it’s a no-brainer for me, to take the good with the hard.

Besides—all the experience and knowledge I’ve accrued through the years is now paying off dividends! These days, I’m equipped with the understanding needed to guide others and pass the baton.

What a wonderful therapeutic modality, and what a privilege it is to share the wealth of knowledge and lessons learned with the up and coming Teachers of our Time🙏.

Aryuvedic Me**cine is amazing 🤩

Its been around for a long time. There was a period of time I was considering going to back to school for this.

I heard that women who strictly practice an Aryuvedic lifestyle have a dramatically different experience with perimenopause & menopause. I believe it! If you’re interested in learning more, feel free to Google search “dosha” and quiz. Those quizzes will ask you about your tendencies and characteristics so you can get a feel for which kinds of foods will best support YOU. We are all unique. Taking into consideration what we can do to support our own WELLNESS—hear me out.

There are certain truths in this Life that can pretty much apply to everyone. We can probably all agree on the that account. Universal Truths are a thing. On the other hand, there’s Personal Truth.

Taking into account our unique makeup can help you refine your self-care game for connecting more deeply to your own nature. So you can learn and practice loving yourself as a habit in daily life in all the ways.

I know of a few Ayurvedic practitioners locally. DM me for a referral! Aryuveda is not really en vogue right now in Wellness—but that doesn’t mean it’s not amazing. There are a lot of wonderful things are getting shirked by the wayside these days probably because of where we are at collectively. The nature of the times and the nature of human beings (sigh)… I guess I have to accept that it is what it is until we get it together and decide we want to do something different.

RIP Gloria Steinem. We’ll do our best to pass the baton🕊️💪🫡🙏

The ultra glamorous Yogapreneur at work at her home office. Y’all see Mr. Bones in the background there?!

He’s keeping me company. 3 Cheers for keeping it real with two feet on the ground, an open heart, a mind as open as a clear blue sky, and a penchant for keeping the Faith!

3 Cheers for a day chock full of admin on this otherwise rainy day in North Portland. I promised to myself I will take breaks to practice my yoga, cook, and eat. Otherwise—wish me luck & y’all let me know when you’re ready to join me.

Where is my team?!! Where are my friends?!! Ahhh I forgot—you guys have been right here, the WHOLE damn time 😂💪💫✌️🤠🌧️🌈🧘‍♀️

Kyla Hall teaches at this studio, now! Kyla is the steadfast, determined, gentle-hearted yoga instructor with a gorgeous head of red hair. (You can see her testimonial for the program a few posts back).

She recently graduated from the Raksana Continuing Education program-segueing from working in the Produce Department to teaching yoga again. Kyla’s Yoga Teacher Training was held by the Shambhala Institute in Colorado.

She got her C.A. (Chiropractic Assistant) certification while in the 13-week Raksana Program in the last cohort. I always got excited to read her homework every week, because she has a unique, relatable way of connecting the techniques to her daily life activities. She was always finding creative ways to bring the techniques into work at the produce department so her colleagues could also benefit from moving better to feel better.

What a heart! I don’t know what she’s going to do next..where her path is going to take her. She’s in her early 30s. I’d love to work with her ongoing because she’d be a total asset to any team. But I’m also aware(as I move forward with growing my educational programs) her path is HER OWN.

I genuinely respect her sovereignty as a human being. I know she has her own internal GPS built inside that will tell her the way forward for HER. That’s the one she needs to listen to so she can become the best version of herself according to the design on the inside.

As I move forward, I’m realizing the core of my passion for carrying out my own mission for peace is that I want to learn how to organize for peace. Organizing has never been my strong suit..which is probably the main reason I have a pulse for this stuff. I really want to see people win in their lives TOGETHER. I’m so tired and bored with the one-upping, negative competition stuff.

To Kyla Hall, my gentle & strong Yoga friend—keep up the good work! Shoot for the moon while you can. I’ll find my way, too. Rooting for you, sister! Y’all let me know if you’d like to come over and take Kyla’s class at Shanti Om. My Monday nights will start freeing up in October🧘‍♀️💫🕊️

This audio is an excerpt from my favorite speech by my mentor in life, Daisaku Ikeda. It’s called the “Flowering of Creative Life Force.” It’s my favorite. I revisit it often, when I need encouragement to continue.

I hope you enjoy it!

It’s tough times out there, y’all! Keep your chin up, keep up with your practices, stay connected to yourself and to those who want to see you win in life. Thanks for that reminder Marcia Hedrick! The current women’s National Yoga Champion seemed to just appear out of nowhere this past Sunday at the 7:30am class at the Bikram yoga studio in Ridgefield. Amazing. I saw this tiny blond powerhouse locking out in Standing Bow. Holy cow. That moment reminded me of two things—First—just… trust the process. And also, sometimes your presence alone is enough to create ripples of positive change. That young woman is a really good example of someone who exercises her creative energy as a habit, and so rises to the top of the mountain. And she’s a human being, just like the rest of us! ⛰️💪🧘‍♀️

Never, never forget your own humanity and the power you have to change your life. No matter what. Don’t let anyone or anything take that away from you. And guess what? They can’t unless you let them. You may stumble & forget your personal power, but who cares?! Get right back up and try again. We’re all only human, here.

It’s like Yoga Practice. If you fall out of Standing Bow Pulling Pose, it’s okay! Just take a breath and get right back in.

“Trust the process of your life unfolding, Allie” is what my best friend in faith always said whenever I started to doubt. One day, she didn’t have to tell me anymore because I learned how to respond to my challenges in a positive way for moving forward with a winning life condition.

One of my favorite things to remember when obstacles arise is that Winter Always Turns to Spring. I am specifically thinking of one friend of mine out there as I write this post, this morning.

Don’t give up. You’ve got this—you know the way, it lives inside you. Remember…ALL things that live reach for the light. 🌱 🌞 🙏🌈💪🫶

INCREASE REVENUE FOR YOUR CLINIC WITH NO EXTRA WORK FOR YOU 🙏

It is my pleasure to shift the gears, here! Building Bridges between Yoga & Healthcare is quite a project, requiring me to have a foot in both worlds.

While I deeply appreciate the support and interest of the Yoga Community in the Raksana Method Functional Movement Program—it’s time to step off the podium, put on some more conservative attire 😁 & GET TO WORK! 💪🧘‍♀️🙌

If you are are a medical provider, and you’re interested in bringing Yoga and Billable Functional Movement Therapies into your clinic—send me a message. I’m happy to set up a one-to-one if you’re local so I can provide you with some options for integrating the program into your clinic right away. Non-local providers—bring it on! I’m happy to meet with you on Zoom. The Raksana Method Functional Movement Program is designed for you, too.

Please enjoy what longtime Yoga Practitioner & licensed Clinical Social Worker Kyla has to say about the Raksana Method content! Send me a message to schedule a call or one-to-one today!
