Firm Foundation Infant Aquatics was created out of the discovery of a gap in protection for children in our local community. Drowning is the number one killer of young children (ages 1-4 and second leading cause of death in ages 5-14) and my goal is to help change those statistics starting with this community. As parents we are pro-active in ensuring our kids safety in our vehicles with car seats
and proper restraints, we ensure their safety by making sure they know to look both ways before they cross the street, we teach them the safe handling of scissors and knives, and not to touch a hot stove. While all of these are important NONE of those events take more lives than drowning does annually. We have been told that the solution to this problem is to take the convenient short cut of sticking our kids in floaties. Children in floaties are taught a false sense of confidence in the water and retain muscle memory of arms outstretched and legs straight down in the water...this position is termed the drowning position for a reason. Floaties are not keeping children safe, they are only increasing your child's risk of drowning. Lessons at Firm Foundation Infant Aquatics will give your children the skills they need to survive an aquatic accident. Children will be gently introduced to the water and once your child is comfortable in the water your instructor will work with him/her, one on one, to guide them through the lesson process and build a level of trust and comfort in the water. The main goal of our time with your child is to give them the necessary skills to save themselves in the water!
