🌅Golden Hour 2026 was nothing short of incredible.

Our dancers trained in ballet, hip hop, contemporary and jazz. They didn’t just learn routines — they learned what it means to train as a dancer. From the vocabulary to the why behind the step. Richard, Catherine and Nancy didn’t just show steps. They taught focus ~Intention ~ Foundation.

✨Over three days I watched the dancer transform.✨

They wrote letters to their future selves. They filled compliment cups. They learned that detail matters 🦋that the foundation of your training is everything. You cannot skip the foundational work and that opportunities as a dancer start with intentional training, hard work and dedication.

We were truly world class trained!

I want to personally thank Dance Etc Sue dance academy and Top of the stairs for believing in this program and entrusting your dancers with us. We look forward to seeing you all throughout this next dance season.

We train together ✨ We rise together

Thank You to KOVC The Voice of the Valley and Nome Schoolhouse for being our sponsors this year 🫶

“You’re going to make me a better teacher. And I’m going to make you a better dancer.”✨

That’s something I’ve been telling my dancers this year, especially the ones stepping into a solo for the first time. They give me this look — like, wait, how does that work, that seems backwards? And I let it sit there for a second. Because it should feel a little backwards. That’s not how most of them have been taught to think about training about education.

Here’s the thing — choreographing a solo at MSB is a collaboration. I’m going to push a dancer to try movement they wouldn’t necessarily choose for themselves, movement that stretches them a little. But if something genuinely doesn’t feel right in their body, I want them to tell me. Because every time we work together like that, I learn something new about how they process things, how they move, how they actually learn. And that makes me better at teaching them — not just this piece, but them, specifically.

That’s the whole thing, really. Training a dancer was never about compliance for me. It’s about knowing them.

I am incredibly excited to see how we all grow, train together✨🦋

🦋I can’t tell this story without going back to the beginning.

✨It was 2022. Catherine reached out to me months in advance and I thought — is this real? But she and I just hit it off immediately. Same teaching philosophy. Same love of dance. Same deep care for the individual dancer. When she came out and taught our small group at the Nome Schoolhouse it was like I was learning for the first time. I wanted Golden Hour to feel like a retreat — intimate, intentional, transformative. Catherine was the first person who made me believe that was possible.

✨Then I came across Richard and Building Blocks of Dance. His method spoke to my heart. Proper body alignment. Artistry. Building skills from the inside out. This year marks our 4th year learning and implementing his method. Richard has helped me find my voice as an instructor and choreographer. Richard changed how I teach. We work smarter not longer — and I have watched our dancers transform because of it. Everything we do is intentional.

✨And Nancy. Oh my goodness. I wanted my dancers to have hip hop training that was quality but most importantly — authentic. Nancy has become a staple at MSB. Extended family. She taught our studio the 5 R’s — Respect yourself, your space, your fellow dancers, your teacher, and your style. She is a mentor. We love her so much.

✨All of our faculty has become like family. And we have learned so much.

🌅This is what Golden Hour is. Not just an intensive. A community built around one belief — that dancers deserve to be developed from the inside out.

🦋Technique. Artistry. Mindset. Body intelligence. The whole human being.

🦋Because a dancer who is trained with intention doesn’t just perform better. They last longer. They love it longer. They live it longer.

💛And to the studio directors reading this —

You are doing one of the hardest jobs there is. You pour everything you have into your dancers every single day. This is not about doing it better. You are already doing it.

This is an invitation to do it together.

Bring your dancers here. Let them train alongside dancers from across the region. Let them feel this community. And then take it back — the 5 R’s, the BBD principles, the mindset work, the belief that every dancer deserves to be developed from the inside out.

Golden Hour exists because we believe this idea is bigger than any one studio. It belongs to all of us. Every dancer on the prairie. Every dancer everywhere.

This is how we change dance. Not by competing. By rising together.

8 days away. Valley City, ND. July 26–29.
1 day, 2 days, or all three — your dancer belongs here.

He’s been on stages and in studios across the country. This July he’s in Valley City — and every dancer in the region is welcome to train with him. 🌅

We are beyond excited to welcome back Richard Elszy to Golden Hour 2026. Golden Hour is a regional summer intensive open to dancers from all studios — no matter where you train, you are welcome here.

Richard is the founder of Building Blocks of Dance — a nationally recognized methodology that changes how dancers understand their own bodies and artistry. If your dancer has trained with Richard before, you already know. If they haven’t — this is the moment.

You don’t have to go to LA or New York for world class training. It’s coming to Valley City.

We are so honored to welcome Catherine Borrone Ballet to Golden Hour 2026 as our Guest Faculty. Golden Hour is a regional summer intensive open to dancers from all studios across North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and beyond — and Catherine is one of the biggest reasons to make the drive.

She brings world-class ballet training, PBT expertise, and a genuine gift for developing dancers as whole artists. And for Teen and Senior dancers, Catherine will lead an exclusive mentorship session on college programs, auditions, and what a professional dance career actually looks like from the inside.

Your dancer doesn’t have to travel to a big city for this. We’re bringing it to the prairie.
