Okay, let’s talk about it. 🩷

Periods are a normal part of life, but having access to the products needed to manage them isn’t something everyone can take for granted. Research shows that period poverty and lack of access to menstrual products affect adolescents and adults across the United States.

We believe periods shouldn’t be something anyone has to feel embarrassed about or something that keeps someone from school, work, activities, or everyday life. It’s natural, it’s normal, and it’s something we should be able to talk about.

That’s why the Valley City Parks & Recreation Foundation is partnering with Abused Persons Outreach Center (APOC) and the Valley City Community Closet for Give Her the Essentials, a community period product drive.

From now through October 31, we’re collecting:
• Pads (all sizes)
• Tampons (all absorbencies)
• Panty liners
• Menstrual cups
• Period Underwear (any size)
• Incontinence Products
• Small toiletry bags for period care kits
• Other new, unopened menstrual hygiene products

📍 Drop-off location: Gaukler Family Wellness Center
A donation bin will be available in the lobby.

All products must be NEW and in their original packaging. Toiletry bags may be donated separately and do not need to be packaged.

All donated products will be distributed locally through Abused Persons Outreach Center, Inc. APOC and the Valley City Community Closet to help provide essential products to those who need them.

You may have heard the name, but what exactly is the 𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙮 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙨 & 𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣?🌳

We wanted to take a moment on National Day of Charity to tell you a little about the VCPR Foundation!

Established in 2023, the VCPR Foundation was created to help make recreation, healthy living, and community spaces more accessible to everyone in Valley City. Through fundraising and community support, the Foundation helps provide opportunities for those who may otherwise face barriers to participating in recreation, while also supporting projects and programs that enhance the quality of life in our community.

The Foundation Board is made up of representatives from the Park Board as well as community members who have big hearts, a passion for Valley City, and a drive to do good in our community. From helping make programs and memberships more accessible to supporting the parks, facilities, and recreational opportunities that make Valley City a great place to live, the Foundation is all about investing in our community and its people.

Events & Initiatives:
- Play It Forward Equipment Drive & Open House
- Scholarships for programs and memberships
- Blind Date with a Book fundraiser
- Future Recreation Leader Scholarship for high school seniors
- Parktober Festival lunch, pumpkin patch, fun run, and volleyball tournament
- "Drive to Thrive" VCPR Foundation Golf Scramble

The VCPR Foundation may be young, but they’ve got big plans! With time and community buy-in, they’ll be able to help more people, support more programs, and take on bigger projects. They're just getting started and are excited to see what we can accomplish together! 🤩
