It only took a few hours. There are a group of Scouts, in my local community. My son is one of them. They show a love for camping, campcraft and cooking in the outdoors.

So, I loaded up my truck with many different types of camp cooking gear and spent an hour teaching them what it's for, why we use it and how it can create a lower impact on the environment.

The next week, I invited the kids and their families to my home for a few hours of cooking, eating and sharing stories.

These are skills passed down to me from family, mentors and leaders in the outdoors community. It's essential we continue to pass them down to those who will be stewards of the outdoors well after we are gone.

What lessons could you teach your local youth to help them enjoy and protect the outdoors? It doesn't have to be complicated... kids love to learn new and exciting things!
