šŸ¦‘ KRAKEN’S LOG – DIVE DAY 5 šŸ¦‘

The final day of diving in what I consider the most magical place on Earth.

And before anyone asks…

Yes, Disney has nothing on Egypt and the Red Sea.
šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡¬šŸ¤æ

Today we headed out to the Straits of Tiran Saudi Arabia to dive Jackson Reef and Gordon Reef, two dive sites that consistently find themselves on lists of the greatest dives in the world.

I know it sounds like I’m bragging.
Trust me, I’m not.

This place is simply that amazing.
We wrapped up the day with a third dive at Far Garden, putting the perfect ending on an unforgettable week beneath the surface.

As if three incredible dives weren’t enough, we geared back up after dark for a night dive in Naama Bay.
Now that’s when the ocean gets a little spooky.

Our lights cut through the darkness revealing octopus hunting across the reef, lionfish stalking their prey, eels peeking from every crack and crevice, and all the strange creatures that only come alive after the sun goes down.
The daytime reef is beautiful.

The nighttime reef feels like stepping onto another planet.

Every beam of light revealed something new, something mysterious, and something that reminded us just how wild the underwater world really is.

What can I say other than…

WOW.

The Red Sea absolutely delivered.
Sea turtles cruising effortlessly through the blue.

Massive coral walls disappearing into the depths.

Millions of fish moving like living rivers.
Eels peeking from every crack and crevice.

Stingrays chasing each other and dancing across the reef as if they were putting on a show just for us.

And then…
In the final minutes of our final dive…
All you could hear underwater was Joanna’s squeal—or maybe it was a shriek of complete disbelief.
Out of the blue came a big, beautiful tiger shark.

As if Mother Ocean herself had saved one last surprise for the grand finale.
She cruised by like she owned the place, giving us a quick look before disappearing back into the deep.

It felt like she was saying…

ā€œThanks for visiting. I’ll see you next time.ā€

And she will.

Because that’s the beautiful thing about diving.

This week our group got spoiled by some of the greatest dive sites on the planet.

A true trip of a lifetime.

But here’s the secret…

We’re coming back.

We’ll have another trip of a lifetime.

We’ll see our fish friends again.

We’ll laugh, dive, explore, and create memories all over again.

That’s what makes this sport so special.
It doesn’t matter your age.

It doesn’t matter if you’re male or female.

It doesn’t matter what you believe.
When you slip beneath the surface, we’re all explorers.

We’re all adventurers.

And with Southern Ocean Sports, you’re family.

If you’ve ever thought about learning to dive, make it a goal.

Get certified.

Change the way you and your family take vacations for the rest of your life.
Join us on our next underwater adventure.

But wait…
The story isn’t over.
Not even close.
The Pyramids of Giza.
The Great Sphinx.
The Grand Egyptian Museum.
The land of Pharaohs awaits.

Stay tuned for the next episode, Kraken Nation.

The adventure continues above the surface.

šŸ¦‘ KRAKEN’S LOG – DIVE DAY 4 šŸ¦‘
Some dive sites are famous.

Some dive sites are legendary.

And then there is the SS Thistlegorm.

šŸ“ Red Sea, Egypt

Often called the greatest shipwreck dive on Earth, the SS Thistlegorm has earned its reputation. While ranking any wreck as the absolute number one is always up for debate, diving experts, historians, and wreck enthusiasts around the world consistently place her at the very top of the list.

Today we got to see why.

The moment you descend onto her, you realize this isn’t just a wreck…
It’s an underwater museum.

A time capsule frozen in history.
A ship carrying the supplies of war that now rests peacefully beneath the waters of the Red Sea.

Motorcycles.
Trucks.
Railroad cars.
Weapons.
Equipment.

History preserved beneath the sea for over 80 years.

Every inch of this wreck tells a story.
We made two incredible dives exploring her decks, cargo holds, and hidden corners. Every diver surfaced with the same look on their face…
Absolute amazement.

As if that wasn’t enough, we headed over to Shark & Yolanda Reef for our next dives.

Many divers consider Shark & Yolanda Reef to be the greatest reef dive on the planet, and after today it’s hard to argue with them.

Massive coral walls.
Endless schools of fish.
Colors so vibrant they look painted.
The kind of diving that makes you stop, look around, and simply shake your head in disbelief.

There just aren’t enough words to describe what we’ve seen and experienced this week.

Every day Mother Nature has delivered something even more incredible than the day before.

Tomorrow is our final day of diving.
The question is…

What does Mother Ocean have waiting for us next?

I honestly cannot wait to find out.
Stay tuned, Kraken Nation.

The adventure isn’t over yet.

šŸ¦‘ KRAKEN’S LOG – DAY 3 šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡¬šŸŽ‚

Today I turned 49 years old.

Now somehow I don’t feel 49. My bones might disagree after a little over 8600 dives, but mentally I’m still that little kid who dreamed about exploring the underwater world. The only thing missing from an otherwise perfect day is my three boys. I’d give anything if they were here sharing these moments with me.

Meanwhile, Southern Ocean Sports continues to Dive Like Egyptians!

Today we made 3 incredible dives in the Straits of Tiran on some of the most famous reefs on the planet. And apparently Poseidon decided to send me a birthday present…

Three giant hammerhead sharks on the first dive. I was out floating in the blue just hoping to see something magical Cutter saw them made the shark signal yes just like the Jimmy Buffett song I got to them at about 70 foot and swam as fast as I could got a few amazing photos and a so so video ended up at 133 feet before I gave up the chase man there super fast!!!

Absolute magic.

Honestly, I could have surfaced after that and been on cloud nine the rest of the day. But Mother Ocean wasn’t finished spoiling our crew.

We saw sea turtles, octopus, clownfish, eels, nudibranchs, and literally millions of God’s most beautiful tropical fish. Everywhere you looked was another explosion of life and color. Even Joshypoo got to see a hammerhead! And Ed managed to snap some photos of an octopus and two nudibranchs making more little nudibranchs that I’m pretty jealous of.

Back on the boat, the crew surprised me with a birthday cake and sang the official ā€œyou’re getting oldā€ song. It was awesome.

Then my smoking hot wife—who is a perfect 10 and I’m saying that again, a PERFECT 10—joined the celebration with a card that may or may not have made this old diver tear up a little and a book about my Chicago Bears.

I woke up to the Cincinnati Reds winning.

I spent the day diving some of the best reefs on Earth.

Then we all met up at the Hard Rock in Sharm for dinner.

And somehow… my shirt came off and I ended up dancing on a chair.
What can I say? Sometimes birthdays get out of hand.

Truth is, I have some of the most amazing friends a man could ask for. I don’t deserve them, but I cherish every single one of them with all my heart.
God has blessed me with a life beyond anything I ever dreamed possible.

I love this underwater life.

I love these adventures.

And most of all, I love the people who make them special.

Until tomorrow…

šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡¬ Dive Like an Egyptian šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡¬

The day started with a group photo of our Southern Ocean Sports crew proudly sporting our "Dive Like an Egyptian" rash guards. Thirty-eight divers standing on the edge of an adventure that none of us will ever forget.

šŸ“ Ras Mohammad National Park

Welcome to one of the Top 10 dive sites on Earth.

You hear people talk about bucket-list dives. You see the photos. You watch the videos. But nothing prepares you for the moment you drop beneath the surface and see it with your own eyes.

Towering coral formations rising nearly 100 feet toward the surface.

Millions of fish moving in every direction.

Colors so vibrant they almost don't seem real.

It's simply breathtaking.

The crew had no idea they were about to dive straight into God's aquarium.

Three dives today that would make almost any dive back stateside seem ordinary.

I heard comments all day long...

"West Palm and the Keys are just okay dives now... thanks Dave."

"I think I'm spoiled forever."

"I'll spend the rest of my life diving and may never see fish like this again."

The funny part?

Little do they know Day 3 is only a few hours away.

As incredible as the diving is, my favorite part isn't the fish, the coral, or even the world-famous dive sites.

It's watching people's faces when they experience something they never thought possible.

It fills my heart in a way that's hard to describe to be able to share my love of the underwater world with this amazing group of friends.

I've included a few sample photos from today's adventure, but pictures can never truly capture what it feels like to be there.

Oh... and I may have gotten to give my favorite fish in the entire ocean a little belly rub today. If you know me, you know exactly how happy that made me.

And we dove on 2 different continents today Africa and Asia how cool is that!!!

God is good.

Tomorrow we do it all again.

Stay tuned, Kraken Nation.

The adventure continues.

šŸ¦‘ KRAKEN'S LOG – DIVE DAY 1 šŸ¦‘

Southern Ocean Sports has officially gone INTERNATIONAL!

šŸ“ Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt – The Red Sea

Some places live up to the hype... Egypt absolutely shatters it.

🌊 Dive 1...Less than 5 minutes into the dive and a MANTA RAY glides out of the blue. How did we get that lucky? Massive schools of fish, crystal-clear water, and coral gardens unlike anything else on Earth.

🌊 Dive 2...About 10 minutes into the dive, a giant Eagle Ray cruises past us like something from a dream. This place is pure magic. Every direction you look is packed with life, color, and adventure.

🌊 Dive 3...An octopus putting on a show, giant clams everywhere, and coral colors that don't even seem real. Reds, blues, greens, purples... it's like someone turned the ocean's color settings all the way up.

I've included a few raw shots of some of the creatures we encountered and a few of my favorite aquatic humans enjoying the adventure.

When I say Egypt is magical, I'm not exaggerating. It's the feeling. The history. The adventure. Every dive feels like you're swimming through a movie set. One minute you're surrounded by vibrant reefs, the next you're expecting Indiana Jones to come around the corner.

We ended the day with a great meal, incredible fellowship, and stories that will be shared for generations. And the best part? Sharing this experience with 37 of the most amazing people you could ever ask to travel and dive with.

This is only Day 1.

The Red Sea has already delivered manta rays, eagle rays, octopus, incredible coral, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Stay tuned, Kraken Nation... we're just getting started.

šŸŒŠšŸ™ SOUTHERN OCEAN SPORTS IS AT IT AGAIN! šŸ™šŸŒŠ

Today we wrapped up our last freshwater dive before loading up and heading to the land of the Pharaohs—EGYPT!

A huge congratulations to Ms. Stacey, who just became our newest SDI Open Water and Nitrox Diver! Welcome to the Southern Ocean Sports dive family!

Now let me tell you a story…

Last week on her first dives, buoyancy was giving her a fit. We dug into the problem and realized she was diving in a men’s BC that simply wasn’t built for her. Today we switched her into a women’s BC, and WOW… what a difference! Her comfort, trim, and buoyancy improved almost immediately.

There’s a lesson in that, folks.

The right gear matters.

Don’t cut corners and buy cheap dive equipment. Diving is supposed to be fun, comfortable, and confidence-building—not an uphill battle because you’re trying to save a few bucks on life-support equipment. Good gear that fits properly can completely change your diving experience.

Another great day underwater, another new diver added to the Southern Ocean Sports family, and now it’s time for the next adventure.

In just a couple of days, Team Kraken heads to Egypt for what promises to be an epic adventure through the Red Sea, ancient pyramids, incredible wrecks, and some of the best diving on the planet.

The next Kraken Log will be coming to you straight from Egypt!

Until then… stay salty, keep blowing bubbles, and we’ll see you on the other side of the world with amazing photos, wild stories, and another adventure for the books.

KRAKEN’S KEYS REPORT: DAVEY JONES’ LOCKER EDITION

Another legendary adventure is in the books for the Southern Ocean Sports crew!

This time we pointed the compass south and headed to the Florida Keys and the incredible Captain Slate’s Atlantis Dive Center for a three-day expedition straight into Davey Jones’ Locker.

Day 1

We kicked things off with Captain Slate’s famous Creature Feature, consistently ranked as one of the Top 10 things to do on Trip Advisor. Sharks, turtles, eels, and enough marine life to make even old Davy Jones jealous.

Day 2

The crew dropped down to 114 feet on the wreck Eagle, one of the most iconic wreck dives in the Keys. After surfacing, grabbing food, and telling a few lies about how big the fish were, we headed back out for a night dive on Davis Reef. The reef transformed into a completely different world once the sun went down.

Day 3

The adventure wrapped up with a dive on a newly discovered ledge the captain had just found, followed by a trip to Spanky’s Reef, a place that never disappoints when it comes to wildlife.

The ocean put on an absolute show.

🦈 Two species of hammerheads
🦈 Bull shark
🦈 More nurse sharks than we could count
🐢 Green sea turtles
🐢 Loggerhead turtles
šŸ™ Octopus
šŸ Eels
🐠 Hundreds of reef fish and creatures

The kind of diving that reminds you why we do this in the first place.

Congratulations Are In Order!

šŸ”„ Jack completed his Advanced Diver certification

šŸ”„ Ethan knocked out both his Advanced Diver and Nitrox certifications

šŸ”„ Ashlee H became our newest SDI Open Water Diver

And as always, Skinner, Ansley, Josh, Ashley G, Selena, and Mean Gene absolutely crushed it, showing off the skills, confidence, and underwater swagger that make them some of the finest divers around.

But the Kraken never stays in one place for long…

The Keys are behind us, and now the countdown begins.

In just 4 days, Southern Ocean Sports loads up and heads across the ocean to the land of pharaohs, pyramids, ancient legends, and some of the greatest diving on Earth.

That’s right…

EGYPT BABY!!!

The Red Sea is calling, and 38 of my closest friends are answering the call. Incredible reefs, legendary wrecks, ancient history, and memories that will last a lifetime await.

If you’ve ever dreamed of changing the way you and your family take vacations forever, now is the time.

Southern Ocean Sports classes start June 8th and July 13th.

The next trip of a lifetime is already being planned.

The ocean is waiting.

Southern Ocean Sports was crushing it again today at the legendary Devil’s Den Prehistoric Spring. Josh was in the water working with Dwayne and Jack putting in the work and building real divers one skill at a time.

Huge congratulations to Jack for officially completing his Open Water and Nitrox certifications… another diver leveled up and ready for bigger adventures. Dwayne knocked out his first couple dives today and showed exactly why we love introducing new people to the underwater world. Watching confidence grow underwater never gets old.

Tomorrow the tribe splits up… part of the crew heads to Troy Spring State Park while the other half rolls south to the Florida Keys for an absolutely epic weekend of diving with Captain Slate’s Atlantis Dive Center.

But we aren’t stopping there… next week Southern Ocean Sports goes international as we head to the land of pyramids, ancient history, and without question some of the best diving on this planet… Egypt.

THIRTY EIGHT divers.
One mission.
Adventure of a lifetime.

The Red Sea is calling and Southern Ocean Sports is answering in full force. My favorite place in the world to dive and I cannot wait to share it with this crew.
