Our hockey community lost one of its own.

Emily Barker — wildland firefighter, longtime Eagle County local, and defender for the Downvalley Divas — died on June 27 while fighting the Snyder Fire on the Colorado-Utah border, alongside fellow firefighters Nick Hutcherson and Sydney Watson.

Emily spent more than a decade shaping the hockey community here in the valley, and gave her life protecting the communities and lands we all love. Our hearts are with her family, her teammates, and everyone who knew her.

Rest easy, Emily. The Vail Mountaineers family is holding you and yours close.

Our 19U Girls fell just short in a 3-2 battle at the USA Hockey National Championships against Montgomery Ice Devils (MD). It’s a tough way to end the run, but we couldn't be prouder of the fight this team showed on the national stage.

Thank you to the players, coaches, and families for an unforgettable season. The future is bright.

To our seniors: Thank you for leading the way.
