🚨 Martinez Classic 60-Mile Training Update 🚨

Our latest 60-mile toss was a challenging one.

780 pigeons were released and 680 have returned, giving us an 87.2% return rate.

We know there have been many different opinions about what may have happened, but we want to share what we are actually seeing here at the loft.

The birds continue to look healthy, active, and strong. They are eating well, showing no obvious signs of sickness, and have been loft flying for more than 1.5 hours. We also have not been overusing medications or vitamins.

The weather at release was favorable, with good visibility, some cloud cover, and atmospheric pressure above 30 inHg.

One factor that has been mentioned is increased hawk activity during this time of year. We cannot say with certainty that this was the cause, but we did receive some birds back with visible hawk wounds, so predator pressure is something we cannot completely ignore. A disturbance near a new release point could have scattered or separated part of the group before they established their direction home.

At the end of the day, nobody can say with certainty exactly what happened.

Our responsibility is to observe, evaluate, and learn from every toss, making decisions based on what we are actually seeing in the loft rather than speculation.

The foundation continues to get stronger at Martinez Classic! 🕊️💪

Our young birds have now completed multiple successful road training tosses from 11 miles, and they’re responding exactly how we’d like to see.

In today’s video, you can watch them loft flying for over an hour with plenty of energy and determination. Just as important, the team is showing excellent appetite, and we’re not seeing any birds showing signs of illness.

These are the little milestones that build confidence for the longer races ahead. Every healthy training day is another step toward a successful season.

🚨 Martinez Classic Training Update 🚨

The birds completed their first 9-mile training toss and came home looking strong! 🕊️💨

After arriving back at the loft, the pigeons still had plenty of energy and remained loft flying. Seeing them return with this much energy is a great sign that the birds are healthy, feeling good, and progressing well as we continue moving forward with their training program. 💪🏁

We’re very happy with what we’re seeing so far. This is just the beginning, and we’ll continue building them up one step and one mile at a time!

🚨 Martinez Classic Weekend Update 🚨

It was a busy and productive weekend here at Martinez Classic! Our team completed several important steps to keep the birds healthy and prepared for the season ahead.

✅ Pulled the 10th flight
✅ Administered pox vaccinations
✅ Gave booster vaccinations
✅ Performed a complete hand scan inspection of every bird’s electronic chip ring

During the hand inspection process, we identified a small number of damaged or non-functioning chip rings. To ensure accurate timing and tracking throughout the season, all defective chip rings were replaced immediately upon discovery.

The following birds received replacement chip rings:

• 65-OROZ
• 83-OROZ
• 32437-JEDD
• 53-BISH
