At the risk of sounding like a broken record.... THESE GIRLS MAKE US SO PROUD! This morning about half of our team made time to travel to Newton and Utica Elementary Schools (big shoutout to Principal's Edinger and Ballinger for giving us 10 minutes to talk to their 2nd through 5th grade girls).
We made the trip to share a bit about our program and encourage the young kids to attend our youth clinic on May 27th, 6-8p at UHS.
Many of you know in a few weeks our team will graduate 7 seniors from high school (Yes... SEVEN). To say they were great leaders who advanced the state of our program is an understatement of epic proportions.
As with all high school sports programs, we are beginning anew for the upcoming season. We will return a couple of kids with some nice varsity experience. After that each player will have an opportunity to grow into the big shoes that were left for them to fill.
Today, the girls who spoke to our elementary students demonstrated they are ready to do just that. I was blown away by the things they had to say to these young girls.
Things like:
- We are a family
- These girls are my sisters
- Golf has given me confidence and made me resilient
- I used to be really shy and now I make friends easily from other schools
- I know when I'm having a bad day, my team will be there to pick me up
- Golf has shown me how to be a leader
- Golf has taught me patience
- Golf is really fun, even though sometimes you have bad days
- Oh and, they love the snacks :)
Some might say the kids say these things because we insist on weaving these messages into the fabric of our program. And, it's true - we do insist on this.
However, without impressive young ladies like the ones who have been a part of our program, there would be nobody to embrace these messages. For that, our entire North Fork Local Schools community should feel very proud. We certainly do. The future is bright for Utica Girls Golf. Go U!
