Demon Eats the Ambulance Driver
This is probably the darkest and most ominous image I've created. I've been debating for days if I should even share it. You can interpret it as you like but it was made with purpose.

Popeyes adventure

So I ran a shift on The Boo Boo Bus last night and as usual it was really interesting start to finish. I marked in service and since my partner thought we were low on fuel, we went to the pumps. As soon as we cleared and I was starting to take a short cut back to our station. We got toned out on a first for me. A psych patient who had climbed a tree. I had planned to stage figuring that this was a scene that just was weird but as we started to pull in we were told it was a 12 year old. I was trying to picture this whole thing and how a 12 year old scampered up a tree and how far up he could be. We arrived to find the counselor standing around this very large tree. I walked up and found instead of one kid that 3 kids where about 20 feet up in the tree. We called for a truck company and tried to talk these kids out of the tree. So the police, the truck company and the battalion chief arrive and the captain of the truck informs me that we can't use the aerial because the tree has to many branches. I have to admit I did ask the cop for his tazer figuring that was the quickest way to get them down. (Hangs head in shame)So the captain hops up in to the tree and start to order these kids down, then asks them to. I finally being over the whole scene and as only a cranky parent can climbed in to the tree and started to scale this damn tree, about 20 feet up I reach the first kid who swings at me, grabbed her hand and made her sit down on the branch. This girl (16 years old) had already threatened to kick me in the face so I was over it but as I am handing her off to the captain I start to get pelted from above with acorns, branches, and descriptive expletives. By this time all I could do is laugh because my partner, the cops, and the battalion chief are all describing all this on the radio. I got a hold of the 14 year old and safely got her passed off. So all that was left was the 12 year old 30 ft up in this tree I climb up and look at him and said " how does it feel to have an old man scamper up into this tree as high as you did. He looks at me and starts laughing and responds " Honestly it's weird" so I had him climb down using me for hand and feet holds. So finally it was my turn and I start climbing down, those nice firefighters set up a hand ladder for me. I threatened anyone with video of this rescue about posting said video. I think the kids are probably less sore than I, but by god I still can climb a tree. Popeye

Eating our young

After nearly 30 years in EMS I am going to make a statement that I never thought I'd make. We need to been better mentors. We have made it a practice to have our new providers earn their way into the brother/sisterhood we are failing to impart the most important skills of all empathy, compassion, and Survival. Unfortunately the longer one spends in this calling the more knowledge we have to pass on but the less of those three qualities we expect from our new people. How many times have you asked someone why they want to do this and they say they want to help people. What was your response? I'll give a bit of time to consider your answer cause I know mine at times has been jaded and negative.
