Myth: More training always means better results.
Reality: Adaptation happens during rest — not during the workout.
This one is hard for competitive athletes to hear. And even harder for competitive sports parents.
❌ MYTH: The athlete who trains the most gets the best results.
✅ REALITY: Training is the stimulus. Recovery is where the actual adaptation happens.
When your athlete lifts, runs, or trains hard — they're creating microscopic damage in the muscle tissue. That's not a bad thing. It's the signal that triggers the body to rebuild stronger.
But here's the catch: the rebuilding only happens during rest. No rest = no adaptation = working hard and going nowhere. Or worse — breaking down faster than the body can repair. Signs your athlete may be under-recovering: ⚠️ Performance plateauing despite consistent training ⚠️ Mood changes — irritability, low motivation ⚠️ Nagging soreness that doesn't resolve in 24-48 hours ⚠️ Getting sick more frequently during the season ⚠️ Sleep disturbances If any of these sound familiar — the answer isn't more training. It's smarter recovery. And that's something we can actually help with. 📍 Carlson Chiropractic + The Training Zone · Urbandale
