There’s something to be said about reaching the point in your infertility journey about not feeling hurt or jealous when someone announces a pregnancy or finalized adoption. I have had many conversations with people struggling with infertility, pregnancy loss, failed adoptions, and foster placement struggles. The common theme was not understanding why some people were blessed and others weren’t. Right, wrong, or indifferent, negative feelings toward pregnancy announcements and finalized adoptions are a part of the infertility and adoption journey process. It doesn’t mean they aren’t happy for the people having a baby or adopting a child, it just reminds them of their difficulty in growing their family.
I admit I have experienced feelings of jealousy and just couldn’t understand how some people were blessed when my journey had been littered with obstacle after obstacle. There’s a lot of growth that has occurred over the years. With every pregnancy announcement and finalized adoption, I am genuinely filled with joy for the family.
Understand though, it is a process and it’s not reflective of the people who are experiencing success. The pain is the reminder of the unsuccessful attempts and/or losses and is not personal to those who are experiencing success.
For those of you who are experiencing pregnancy and/or have finalized an adoption: congratulations and I am so happy for you and your family.
