This Saturday’s match against Monmouth was played in absolutely brutal conditions, with rain coming down throughout the day, but the Montclair lads showed up and put in a solid, physical performance against a tough opponent. At times, the defensive puzzle Monmouth put in front of us looked hard to solve, but we kept pressure on, spent much of the first half in their territory, and went into halftime up 3–0 thanks to Sky, our temporary fullback, drilling an outstanding 40-meter drop kick to give us the lead and a little breathing room. The second half brought more of the same: a close, physical battle, with Montclair making more than 10 substitutions — a real testament to how we are using this spring to get everyone meaningful playing time.
Eventually, Milan, our captain, caught the defense on the wrong foot, beat a couple of defenders, and finished off a strong try. Brendan, our No. 8, followed with a classic bulldozing effort inside the 22, putting pressure on the defense, stepping through contact, and powering over the line. Overall, this was a great character-building performance. Thank you to .rugby for traveling on such a hard day, and thank you to everyone who came out in the rain to support the club.
Next up: Long Island away next week.
