My kids hid from me, and I never touched them.
I learned this one at home, not at work. Coming back from deployment, carrying stress I thought I was hiding, my own kids started hiding from me instead.
Not because I ever raised a hand to them, but becuase my face spoke before my voice did.
That's containment. It's not stoicism. It's not pretending everything's fine, because pretending is worse.
Your people can always tell.
Containment is the discipline to absorb pressure before it reaches the people who depend on you, and find the right place to put it down instead of handing it to whoever's closest.
Everything you feel as a leader travels. The question is who's carrying it for you right now that shouldn't be.
