Keep the energy from the Masters Tournament alive by joining us for a free event this Wednesday at 6:30pm! Jake is a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Fitness Instructor, and he is going to be discussing body mechanics in the golf swing, and proper training techniques to avoid golf-related injuries. Jake is also going to show you a dynamic warmup routine you can use before the start of each round! And if you still have questions, there will even be a Q&A session at the end! Our Aerobic Health has two components, fuel efficiency and horsepower. Fuel efficiency can be best associated with zone 2 cardio training. The better at zone 2 you are, the easier everyday activities become. Horsepower is best associated with your VO2 Max. The higher your VO2 max is, the higher your horsepower is, which will allow you to accomplish more difficult and high workload tasks. Another way to think about aerobic health is to think about designing a new car.

The best car on the market would be something that has the horsepower of a Ferrari (high VO2 Max) and the MPG of a Prius (high fuel efficiency). So in order to maximize your aerobic health you will need to train zone 2 cardio in order to increase your fuel efficiency, and do interval training in order to increase your VO2 Max.

Another important note to add is that interval training will also increase your fuel efficiency, and zone 2 cardio training will also help to increase your VO2 Max. These 2 training styles have a cyclic effect on your aerobic health system.

3 Month VO2 Max Training Update!

When Jake got his VO2 Max Test measured in December it was a 42.9 and his zone 2 cardio zone was from 103-114 bpm. Compared to similar people of Jake’s age and size, his VO2 max graded good, but his zone 2 cardio zone was oddly low. So seeing this Jake decided to dedicate the next 3 months to specifically training in his zone 2 cardio zone. And we are happy to report that after 3 months of this specific training, Jake has increased his zone 2 cardio zone from 103-114 bpm, all the way up to 124-137 bpm! He has also increased his anaerobic threshold from 121 bpm up to 146 bpm!

We wanted to share this information not only to celebrate all of Jake’s hard work, but also to showcase the information from a VO2 Max Test can be utilized to both guide and maximize your training!

What is aerobic metabolism? Aerobic metabolism is an energy system in which we burn fat for fuel. It is a very efficient system and this is important because most of our daily lives and activities take place in this state. This system can be trained using zone 2 cardiovascular exercise. It is important that we train this system because it will make our daily lives so much easier. All of a sudden, walking the dog doesn’t feel like a chore, going hiking doesn’t require as many breaks, and walking the golf course won’t feel like a challenge. The strength of this system can really dictate our lives so it is important that we both understand it, and train it.
