Why Does CrossFit Start With Food?
Before CrossFit talks about squats, pull-ups, running, lifting, or intensity, it starts here:
“Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar.”
Why these foods?
Because the goal is actually very simple: build most of your diet around whole, minimally processed foods that give your body the nutrients it needs to be healthy, recover, and perform.
🥩 Meat and other quality protein sources provide protein your body needs to maintain and repair muscle.
🥦 Vegetables provide fiber, vitamins, minerals, and a lot of nutrition for relatively few calories.
🥜 Nuts and seeds provide fats, fiber, and important micronutrients.
🍓 Fruit provides carbohydrates along with fiber, vitamins, minerals, and naturally occurring sugars.
🥔 Starches provide carbohydrates that can help fuel activity and replenish energy, but CrossFit’s original recommendation emphasizes keeping them in proportion to your needs.
🍬 “No sugar” refers to minimizing added sugar.
Put all of that together and you have a diet based primarily around real food rather than highly processed food.
And that’s the bigger message.
Nutrition doesn’t need to start with complicated supplements, perfect macros, or the newest diet trend.
Start with the quality of the food on your plate.
CrossFit puts nutrition first because everything we want from training (energy, recovery, muscle, performance, and long-term health) is influenced by how we fuel the body.
Before we worry about the top of the fitness pyramid, we have to build the foundation.

Michael!

Within 3 months Michael has lost 6 pounds and gained 3 pounds of muscle. His cardio and weightlifting abilities have increased dramatically and his mobility has improved. He also appreciates how the coaches and community support healthy eating habits and helpful recovery so that he is not leaving the gym feeling broken, but instead leaves the gym feeling more capable and ready to take on the day!

Great job Michael, keep it up!

5 Reasons Why Elite Athletes Should CrossFit:

1. Build strength without losing athleticism.
Elite athletes don’t just need to be skilled, they need a strong body that can support that skill. CrossFit builds full-body strength through squatting, pulling, pushing, hinging, carrying and core work.

2. Develop explosive power
Jump higher. Move faster. Produce more force. Olympic lifting, jumping and other explosive movements train athletes to generate power, something dancers, gymnasts and field/court athletes rely on constantly.

3. Improve conditioning and stamina
It’s one thing to execute a skill perfectly when you’re fresh. It’s another to do it at the end of a long practice, performance or competition. CrossFit develops both aerobic and anaerobic capacity so athletes can maintain performance as fatigue sets in.

4. Build a more resilient, well-rounded body
Sports involve thousands of repetitions of similar movements. Cross-training exposes athletes to different movement patterns and strengthens muscles that may not get enough attention during sport-specific practice.

5. Train the athlete, then practice the sport
CrossFit doesn’t replace dance practice, technique work or sport-specific coaching. It builds the strength, power, endurance, coordination, balance and body control behind those skills.

Your sport builds the skill.
CrossFit builds athlete.
