I flew to Montreal for World Champs as an ambassador for Specialized Bicycle Components Although I showed up in time for the group ride, my bike was still somewhere in the states. They offered an e-bike, but the Epic 9 with flat pedals looked more appealing. So there I was, riding in denim on an F1 Track in another country.

It was a wild start, but my gear eventually arrived and I was able to settle into a dream itinerary. Met some legends. Witnessed American cycling history being made. Confirmed that this is the greatest sport on the planet.

Thanks Specialized Canada for the unforgettable experience!

Removing Choice To Accomplish A Big Goal

I sold my truck and committed to bike commuting to help regain my fitness after a huge injury. It’s been inconvenient at times, but it’s working even better than expected!

Aligning my options with my goals is a lesson I’ll take with me, long after this season of life.

Where could you apply this in your own life?

CYCLIST CORE WORKOUT: Do 30 Seconds in each position and use the progressions when you’re ready 👊

1. HOLLOW HOLD
Progression: Rock Forward/Back or Side To Side

2. SIDE PLANK
Progression: Lift The Top Leg (to build strength on the outside of your hip/glute med) or Lift The Bottom Leg (to build strength on the inside of your hip (groin/adductors).

3. SUPERMAN
Progression: Add a press using load (full bottles or 2-5lbs dumbbells).

*Do 3 Rounds with minimal rest and follow it up with the Upward Dog and Child’s Pose Stretch (30 Seconds Each).

This workout trains your entire core meaning everything between your hips and shoulders. Strengthening it will help you stay stable and pain free on the bike.

RELIEVE your Low Back after a ride with this decompression technique.

Hang from a bar and allow your core to slowly disengage. This will allow the weight of your legs to stretch the soft tissue that feels so jammed up. It also eases nerve pressure and creates space between your vertebrae for blood flow, letting oxygen reach damaged tissue for repair.

Other benefits include shoulder mobility, grip strength, and improved posture. It’s a simple practice that’s worthy of a daily habit.

Try 3 - 30 second hangs at full body weight or with support from your feet as you build strength.

ICU To Everest ✔️ 2 years ago, I laid on the pavement wondering if I would ever see my boys again, let alone walk. This Saturday, I was able to ride my bike up and down a hill for 13 hours climbing the equivalent of the highest point on earth (29,032 vertical feet).

This was a dream way to celebrate recovery

Hopefully I don’t over glamorize it…getting back to this point hasn’t been pretty. There are levels of pain, fear, trauma, and doubt that I didn’t know existed prior to my accident. But there are also levels of peace and contentment I didn’t either.

These are lessons I’d like to share soon.

Before that, I just want to thank everyone that has supported me in the last couple years. From a fundraising event, to meal trains, hospital visits, and endless prayers. It’s all impacted my family in ways that I can’t express through words.

It’s week! This Saturday, I’ll be taking on my own riding challenge: ICU To Everest.

After 26 months of rebuilding my body, I feel confident that’s it’s ready to take on 29,032 feet of climbing safely 🦾

These photos are from the Base Camp simulation ride (17,600 feet) last month, where I tested my pacing and nutrition strategy on the same climb. Every shifting and standing point, gram of carbohydrate, milligram of sodium, milliliter of water, all accounted for…

Preparation is about maximizing your potential. Even if you’re starting broken in a hospital bed, you can aim toward something that requires your best in that moment.

I’m still not 100% recovered, but right now, this is mine…I’m going for it!

Fix Knee Pain with this simple technique: It’s called “joint distraction” and all you need is a small towel.

Roll it up and wedge it behind your knee. As you sit back to your heels, your joint will pry open (decompression). This helps oxygen rich blood reach/repair damaged cartilage and inflammation.

It also provides a nice massage to your upper calf and lower hamstring, offering relief from chronic tightness you might be experiencing behind your knee.

Do 15 slow pulsing reps to start experiencing the benefits.

Bike fit at the Human Performance Lab (fit studio & wind tunnel). What an experience…

It felt like imposter syndrome, but there was purpose for me being there. I WANT TO EVEREST AGAIN POST INJURY and this team is providing every resource available to support the pursuit.

3 Hours of movements assessments, collecting data via Body Geometry ( ) and deep conversations on riding history with Waylon.

There were no apparent signs of injury! Surprising, but also validating considering the relentless work I’ve put in over the last 2 years.

We discovered that all “misalignments” were in response to the way I learned how to ride a bike 20 years ago. Heel drop left foot, knee out right leg, cleats moved back…all reflecting my Downhill MTB racing position.

Excited to bring you along for the training over this next month! First with an Everest Base Camp on Feb 21st. If all goes well, Full Everest March 14th
