What an incredible day for Jamison Takazawa!

Jamison WON his age group today at Final Qualifying at Pebble Beach, earning his spot in the 2027 National Finals at Augusta National!

And he earned it in about the most dramatic way possible.

With a trip to Augusta on the line, Jamison went to a playoff and buried a 15-foot putt to win it. A 15-footer, in a playoff, with Augusta National waiting on the other side.

That takes some serious guts.

All the credit goes to Jamison. He’s the one who has put in the work, competed, handled the pressure, and earned this opportunity.

And a huge congratulations to his dad as well. The time, support, travel, practice, and commitment that goes into helping a young golfer reach this level is enormous. This is a pretty special accomplishment for both of them.

I’m incredibly proud to have the opportunity to coach Jamison and watch his game continue to grow.

Enjoy this one, Jamison. You earned it.

NEXT STOP: AUGUSTA NATIONAL. 🌺⛳️🏆

We’re using the balance board here to exaggerate the pressure shift — getting him to feel more lateral before he goes vertical.

Then we worked on rotation — what Dr. Kwon calls “shurn,” shift and turn.
Atti sometimes “shumps,” shift then jump — and forgets the turn.

The goal is to help him feel that full sequence: shift, turn, then push.

Finding something to change in a swing is easy. Finding the change to make it better is the hard part. We’re trying to build a swing for Atti that’ll make him win… for a long time.

Practice slowly. Pause when needed. Build the feels.
Perfect? No.
Better? Yes.
Learn the geometry. Practice with purpose.

Fun to have Marianne back out for lessons, and always great working with a student who puts in the kind of effort she does.

Today we started to tackle the classic over-the-top move in the downswing. First step was cleaning up the backswing so the trail elbow didn’t get stuck too deep behind her. With that piece better, we could shift to the downswing — focusing on getting the right shoulder to work more down in transition instead of out toward the ball.

The wall drills at the end are the key checkpoints. The second one especially — if you can do it, you won’t swing over the top again.

Can you throw a baseball?

If so, you already know the foundation of a good golf swing. The sequence is almost identical—ground → hips → chest → arms → wrists.

This graph compares the timing of a golf swing vs. a throwing motion. Same pattern, different rhythm. The days of thinking baseball is bad for your golf game are gone. In fact, if you’re good at throwing, you’re built to move like a golfer.

Get the sequence right, and the rest gets easier.

New at Richmond Golf Club’s driving range, you will see solid colored aiming poles around our colored barber poles to help you visualize PGA Tour proximity averages:

• Orange Poles: 15 feet from the target, representing the PGA Tour average proximity from 75-100 yards, which is approximately 16 feet 9 inches.

• Green Poles: 25 feet from the target, indicating the PGA Tour average proximity from 125-150 yards, around 23 feet 5 inches.

• Blue Poles: 35 feet from the target, illustrating the PGA Tour average proximity from 175-200 yards, approximately 34 feet 11 inches.

These markers provide a reference to compare your approach shots against professional standards. Use them to set goals and track your progress during practice sessions.

Too bad we’re closed on Mondays—guess we’ll never know who put them out there.
