The Grand Rapids Autonomous Support System (G.R.A.S.S.) is a decentralized network of neighbors, friends, activists, and artists collaborating to manifest events and conversations supporting creativity, individual autonomy, and community resilience. The intention of the network is to empower people to host passion-driven events in order to strengthen individual autonomy and community collaboration. Examples of past events include: open-mics, potlucks, art shows, festivals, street clean ups, house shows, documentary nights, ecstatic dances, skill sharing, neighborhood cookouts, yoga, meditation, educational workshops, emergency preparedness meetings, play dates in the park, craft nights, and deep discussions on taboo topics. There is a weekly meet up every Tuesday evening for authentic idea sharing, discussions, and event announcements. People are welcome to come as they are without fear to be themselves. The location shifts amongst our homes, local businesses, and parks (during the warm months). Once the capacity limits are eased up for gatherings, our main space for all events will be at The DAAC on Plainfield. Be sure to like the page so you can stay updated on our week-to-week locations! Please review the following values before attending a G.R.A.S.S. We encourage participants to embody these values. G.R.A.S.S.’s Values:
Honest Communication - Have confidence to speak your truth and do so with compassion for those listening. Personal Accountability - Be devoted to continuous self-reflection and growth; hold yourself accountable to follow through with commitments or clearly communicate when unable to. Voluntary Exchange - Act consensually when giving and receiving goods, services, or physical contact. Creative Expression - Practice fearlessness in utilizing your inner creativity and encourage others to do the same. Community Resilience - Support local artists, projects, organizations, businesses, and food sources that are in alignment with your values. Let’s build a better world together!
