Urea can be a useful source of N and thus protein in cattle. However, as horses are hindgut fermenters they cannot use urea similar to cattle. If feeding cattle and horses together, read labels to determine where the nitrogen in the feed is coming from!

Great tip!

Trailering can be stressful for horses, and can even lead to ulcer development. When you offer hay to your horse may actually help.

Horses that were offered hay in the hour prior to travel, had a lower degree of ulceration and higher antioxidant status than horses which were fasted for 12 hours prior to trailering. Bottom line - don't withhold hay - and may think about feeding them on long trips.
