Women’s Climb Night at VITAL Bellingham is this Thursday evening from 6-8 PM!

Whether you are new to climbing or are a seasoned climber, we would love to see you there and climb together 😁

This is a causal meetup - there is no per-registration required. Once you arrive, sign-in at the Shifting Gears table and look around the gym for our climbing volunteers! They will be wearing red Shifting Gears T-shirts.

As the summer winds down and leaves start to fall, pack your favorite hiking sweater and enjoy a morning stroll on our next Moms on Mountains (MOM) group hike! 🍂

📍 Two Dollar Trail, Larrabee State Park

Our upcoming MOM hike will be on the Two Dollar Trail in Larrabee State Park. The Two Dollar Trail is one of the approaches to Fragrance Lake and follows a tree-lined ridge through a forest of cedar, Douglas fir, hemlock, big-leaf maple and red maple with views out to the Salish Sea.

Your hike leader, Kirke Mahy Hestad, is a mother, outdoor enthusiast, and community builder who brings people together through shared experiences in nature. Kirke offers these hikes as a welcoming, grounded space for moms (in all phases of motherhood!) to gather, connect, and build community together.

Shifting Gears has had a beautiful summer of biking adventures from mountain biking to gravel and road rides of all skill levels. Now that fall is fast approaching our INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED Bow/Edison Road Ride is open for registration!

On this beautiful ride, we will take the back roads around Lake Samish from Bellingham to the quaint Edison. Expect a few climbs, the beginnings of fall colors, and rural riding to the heart of downtown Edison where there are tasty treats. This is about a 42-mile ride round trip with roughly 2100 ft of elevation gain. We will take breaks and enjoy our time riding together.

We rode down the Cascade Trail to Rasar State Park for our second gravel ride of the summer season! ☀️

Clouds and cool morning air kept us feeling fresh and strong on the 15-mile ride to Rasar State Park. The sun came out just as we made our way down to the banks of the Skagit River for our lunch break!

Conversation flowed and spirits were high on our 15-mile ride back along the Cascade Trail back to our cars. A few folks even spotted a herd of elk!! Such a lovely day with a lively group of women gravel riders!

Thank you for joining us, and we hope to see you on future rides! 🚴‍♂️

It's a summer for paddleboarding! ☀️🌊

Join Shifting Gears and Ava Larsen of out on the water at Lake Padden for a Stand-up Paddleboard (SUP) Skills & Social Paddle. This is a welcoming space for women to connect and build paddle skills. There, our experienced SUP guide will offer tips and tricks for paddle-boarding. This is a perfect paddle for those new to paddleboarding or looking to become more comfortable with their SUP skills. You can bring your personal SUP or rent one from Wildcat Cove Paddle and enjoy a morning of peaceful views and good conversations on Lake Padden!

Interested in birding but don’t know where to start? Do you have binoculars sitting on the shelf at home collecting dust? Do you just love birds and want to connect with a community of birders and naturalists? Come and bird with Shifting Gears and Bird Bellingham!

Join us this Monday for a guided evening bird walk with professional naturalist and q***r birder Kate Brown of where we will learn the essentials of birding and connect with each other on the beautiful trails of Whatcom Falls Park.

Evil Bikes is offering free shuttles and demos from Evil Bikes’ headquarters in Fairhaven to the top of the Chuckanuts this Sunday August 16th and on Saturday, September 5th

We’re sending it down Double Black and Double Down - techy trails that rival Galbraith’s finest!

2PM - Want to level up your riding? Join us early for coaching sessions with Wild Kat Rides

4PM - Just wanna rip? Meet for a fast-paced, no-coaching lap with an Evil Bikes and Shifting Gears ride leader and sweep
