Zero barrier to entry.

Zero soreness, fatigue, or negative effects on the rest of your training.

Added grounding benefits if you can get your shoes off.

Not going to change your life but certainly useful.

Wishing the best of luck to my brother as he goes for his THIRD STRAIGHT street lifting world championship this weekend.

This guy is an absolute savage (does weighted dips with weight I’d be proud to squat) and one of the most focused, disciplined athletes I have ever met.

Despite being about as alpha as you can get he’s a very genuine, humble guy, with great taste in anime 😉

Excited to watch you compete this weekend brother no doubt you’re going to show one more time why you’re the best in the world.

It sucks. It's unfair.

True.

But the sooner you accept it for what it is, the sooner you can get better.

No one is coming to save you.

You're the only one with the power to do something about it.

People like me can assist you.

We can point you in the right direction, show you the path to walk.

But you're the only one who can walk it.

The moment you take ownership of your situation is the moment you gain power over it.

Let's go.

Something that's not talked about a lot is how the choice of graft you use to reconstruct your ACL can effect your rehab.

The kind of graft the surgeon picks typically comes down to two things:

1. What sport you play (basketball players more likely to get hamstring graft than soccer players)
2. Surgeon preference (which seems crazy to me)

Whichever graft you end up with you should be aware of how it can effect your recovery.

If they take from your hamstring you had better be prepared to rehab that thing as much as your knee. Better put a nordic bench in your damn bedroom.

If you get a patella graft watch out for pain at the graft sight. Step ups can be harder to get into and can become painful when getting back into jumping.

Extra Iso's can be particularly beneficial.

Personally, I've seen the least issues with quad tendon grafts.

Biggest thing would probably be extra stiffness through the quad & knee making the couch stretch something you'll really want to master.

Small details but can make a big difference on your road to recovery.

The most dangerous thing about traditional ACL rehab is that it only gets you PART of the way back.

You make just enough progress to get back on your feet and maybe try your sport again, but you're definitely not 100%.

This is a perfect recipe for re-injury.

Doing just a little bit more work in the short term can save you a ton of time, effort, money, pain, and frustration from having to go through the entire process all over again.

Be the type of person that goes the extra mile not takes the shortcut.

Athletes typically deal with pain in rehab in one of two ways:

Bulldoze their way through it.

Or run away from it.

Pro's and con's to each.

The grinders have the strength and resolve needed to push themselves and get through hard times.

Without guidance, however, they will hurt themselves.

They benefit from learning that not everything can be accomplished by sheer force.

Give them rules, constraints to operate within.

Then get out of their way and let them work.

Then there are the timid ones. The once bitten twice shy types.

As soon as something feels the slightest bit off they freeze up, unsure how to proceed.

They’re cautious (and with good reason) but too much caution can be just as dangerous as too little.

They run the risk of stagnation.

Afraid of moving backwards they fail to move forwards.

They run a great risk of re-injury because they never get back to their previous level.

They need to be pushed, or better yet encouraged.

They need to be shown how to deal with tough periods.

That just because something hurts, doesn’t mean there’s nothing they can do.

Give them small, little wins to rebuild their confidence.

Help coax them out of their shell and watch them excel.

In rehab we want things to be hard not hurt.

Training that is hard builds us up, makes us stronger, moves you forward.

Training through pain breaks you down, makes you weaker, sets you backwards.

You can think about pain as a signal to the brain that you are doing more damage than you can recover from.

So the more you push the worse you get rather than better.

There are exceptions but it’s a good rule of thumb for most people.

Use it to help guide you through your recovery process.

If there’s pain make adjustments and keep going.

I have always been a ‘go it alone’ kind of guy.

Preferring to do it all myself than to rely on others.

Thinking that the safest hands are my own.

Unwilling to give up control.

This way of thinking has gotten me a long way.

It has forced me to become self-reliant, disciplined, and grow in order to succeed.

But it also holds me back.

It holds me back from trusting others, from growing, and from being able to focus on the things I am best at.

Even when I'm able to recognize this fact, it's still not easy to change.

But getting to be a part of a community, seeing the value of team and tribe, is motivating me to really put that into practice.

"faster alone, farther together"

A quote I've always liked.

Starting to build that tribe, starting to let people in.

And that starts with you guys.

Sharing more about me so I can connect more deeply with you.

If I fit your vibe, stick around.

Going fun places soon.

Let's go.
