That Salad Lady® is all about real food, real life and daily rituals for wellness—from colorful bowls and mindful movement to family moments and grounding habits. I'm a health scientist, author, mom of two and creator of "The Build Your Bowl Salad Cookbook." With over 25 years of experience in nutrition, exercise and lifestyle medicine, I teach real people how to build real wellness—from the food

we eat to the way we move and live. This brand started with salads, but it's never been just about food. It's about discovering everyday rituals that support well-being through all the layers of life. I've faced my own challenges, including chronic anxiety, OCD, and the ongoing work of balancing motherhood and personal growth—and I bring those experiences into everything I create. Whether it's sharing colorful bowls, practical workouts or mindset tools for mental wellness, my goal is to make wellness feel grounded, flexible and real. Welcome to That Salad Lady. Real food. Real life. Wellness that fits.

Most of us know to wash apples, cucumbers and lettuce before eating them—but watermelon often gets overlooked 🍉

Even if you don't plan to eat the green outer skin, it's still important to wash the outside before cutting into a watermelon.

As your knife passes through the outside, it can transfer dirt and microorganisms from the surface into the edible flesh. A quick rinse under cool running water, followed by a gentle scrub with your hands or a clean produce brush, is a simple step that helps reduce that risk. Dry the watermelon with a clean towel before slicing.

Yesterday, I shared my Famous Dave's®-Inspired Sweet & Spicy Watermelon Rind Pickles. Whether you're saving the rind for pickling or simply enjoying the fruit, washing the outside first is a smart habit worth adopting.

With National Watermelon Day tomorrow, consider this your friendly reminder to give your watermelon a quick wash before you cut into it. It's a small step that can make a meaningful difference.

You know how you get a flavor stuck in your head?

That’s exactly what happened here. I couldn’t stop thinking about the sweet-and-tangy flavor of Famous Daves’s Sweet ‘N Spicy Pickles, so I challenged myself to recreate it using watermelon rind.

After a little experimenting, I finally landed on a version with the sweetness, tanginess, a hint of spice and all the crunch I was hoping for.

It’s also a great reminder that watermelon rind is completely edible—and perfect for pickling instead of tossing.

With National Watermelon Day just a couple of days away, it’s the perfect reminder that sometimes the parts we throw away still have something delicious to offer 🍉🥒

Sometimes the best meals aren’t the ones you plan. They’re the ones inspired by what’s fresh and in season 🌿

My neighbor always tells me to help myself to the tomatoes whenever she leaves town, and I never pass up the opportunity. There’s nothing quite like a sweet, juicy, garden-grown tomato at its peak 🍅

Today’s lunch came together with fresh basil, mozzarella, a drizzle of olive oil, and my homemade one-ingredient balsamic glaze. Simple ingredients. Big flavor. Exactly what I was craving 🥗

Do you have a favorite way to enjoy fresh summer tomatoes ♥️

Not every bowl is a salad 💚

This Savory Sesame Bowl is one of the recipes from my Build Your Bowl® 7-Day Reset Guide. Built with colorful vegetables, lean protein, whole grains and a simple sesame-ginger dressing, it’s a nourishing meal that’s just as satisfying as any salad.

One of the things I love most about the Build Your Bowl® approach is its flexibility. Whether you’re in the mood for a warm bowl or a fresh salad, the goal is the same: build your meal around wholesome, balanced ingredients that work for you.

Would you reach for a warm bowl or a salad today 🥣🥗

Lettuce Talk About the Recent Produce Reports 💚

I've been getting quite a few questions lately about the recent reports involving fresh produce, so I wanted to take a moment to share my perspective.

First, I understand the concern. Food safety is important, and it's always wise to stay informed. At the same time, I'm careful not to let headlines keep me from eating one of the healthiest food groups we have.

My approach really hasn't changed.

🥬 I continue to buy whole produce whenever possible and prep it myself.

💧 I wash my produce thoroughly, but how I wash it depends on the fruit or vegetable. There isn't a one-size-fits-all approach, so I don't recommend treating every type of produce the same.

📋 I also pay close attention to updates from the FDA and CDC. If a specific product, brand, or recall is identified, I'll follow that guidance.

The bottom line?

I'm not avoiding fruits and vegetables. I'm continuing to practice good food safety while enjoying the foods that support my health every day.

Stay informed. Practice good food safety. And don't let fear keep you from filling your plate with colorful, nourishing produce 🥗

One of the things I love most about ingredient prep is that one set of ingredients can become something completely different with a simple change in presentation 🥗

For today's Taco Tuesday, I took one of my favorite Southwest Chicken Bowls and turned it into a mason jar salad. The full recipe's in my Build Your Bowl® Reset Guide 🌮

Same fresh ingredients.Same balanced meal.A whole new way to enjoy it.

That's the beauty of ingredient prep. It gives you flexibility without starting from scratch 💚

Staying hydrated doesn't have to be complicated 💛

One of my favorite ways to make water a little more enjoyable is by infusing it with fresh fruit, citrus and herbs. It's a simple habit that adds natural flavor and makes reaching for another glass a little easier.

What's your favorite infused water combination ✨

I love keeping a variety of fresh, prepped ingredients on hand because it makes building a nourishing meal feel simple, even on the busiest days.

Sometimes “getting back on track” sounds simple until you actually have to do it.

That’s why I created the Build Your Bowl® 7-Day Reset.

It’s not a detox.

It’s not a strict diet.

And it’s not about trying to be perfect for seven days.

It’s a simple, practical guide to help you build balanced meals, simplify meal prep, and feel more confident about what to eat next.

Inside, you’ll find easy-to-follow bowl recipes, a coordinated grocery list, and a flexible framework you can keep using long after the seven days are over.

If your eating has felt a little off lately, this is a gentle place to begin again.

The Build Your Bowl® 7-Day Reset is now available. Link is in the comments.

Every bowl is another opportunity 🥗
