There’s still an overwhelming misconception about WHAT personal training is.

People still think personal training is about making clients “suffer.”

Or to work them to the bone— to the point where they’re completely exhausted and can’t move.

Or someone who’s just “counting reps.”

Nope. That ain’t it.

Personal training is about teaching clients how to move efficiently through a wide range of exercises, stretches, etc, that will be of benefit to THAT particular client.

A trainer must be able to articulate to their clients, that the process of getting in better shape takes time.

But in due time, they’ll reach small milestones; leading to greater milestones!

And this last part right here is the most important….

Whether the client is brand new to fitness or not, they often already have doubts themselves….

If that is the case…

The trainer MUST be their clients’ biggest source of guidance and encouragement!

Lifting weights is marvelous.

However, don’t just lift or move heavier weights, “just because you can”.

What I mean is, if you’re truly trying to get the most out of your strength training techniques, learn good form and optimize muscle engagement.

Take this, as an example.

Someone might be used to lifting heavier on the bench press. Technically, they can lift/move the weight, but they struggle to feel their pectoral muscles engage. If that’s the case, they’re either A) Lifting too heavy and/or B) Relying too much on their shoulders.

This can be remedied by lightening the load, and (a personal favorite, tactic of mine), sloooowing doooown the tempo.

Boy. Let me tell ya. If more people went lighter and cranked down the tempo with certain techniques, they’d feel a HUGE difference with muscle engagement!

Just keep this in mind.

Strength training isn’t simply lifting weights “because you can.”

It’s about getting the most benefit out of your lifting techniques!

This sound familiar?

“Damn it!! I didn’t get all my calories in.”

“Oh my GAWD!! I ate nachos. While out with friends. Who I haven’t seen in months. I’m a FAILURE!!!”

Damn it!! I missed two workouts this week and—wait a sec. HOLY CRAP!!! My muscles are leaving me!!

First of all. I strongly encourage you to tell yourself, to chill the hell out. 😇

You are doing FINE.

Fitness journeys are meant to be imperfect.

There’s no need to punish yourself just because you’re living and going through life. 💯

If you strengthen your body…

You’ll strengthen your independence!

As I often say: training and fitness go beyond aesthetics.

For a lot of people, it’s about maintaining independence.

Knowing they can rely on themselves.

That they’ve built a strong, capable body.

It’s about moving freely.

It’s about, well, taking care of yourself!

On today’s episode of “What Did My Trainer Eat?”

This was from Sunday, October 18th.

Clients often think I either A) Don’t eat very much and/or B) Avoid deliciousness altogether.

The truth is, I eat foods I enjoy. EVERY day. And depending on the day, I eat anywhere between 1,700-2,200 calories.

My calorie intake would be higher, if I were working out regularly. However, since I’m (still) working through chronic pain issues (which is doing much better btw 🤞🏽), I’m not consuming AS much as I normally would.

Take it from me, folks. If I didn’t have a good grasp on nutrition, my body would look and feel very different. Especially since I haven’t been able to exercise like I used to.

I also want to point out that the way your stomach looks in the morning, versus later at night, won’t be the same! (It’s why I’d never encourage weighing yourself at the end of the night. 😆)

Your nutrition is crucial to your health, body composition, physicality, etc. I will always be a broken record about this subject with clients.

You ever wonder why your motivation seems to fizzle?

Don’t get me wrong…

Motivation is dope!

It’s the catalyst for making positive changes.

However, once that initial flame of motivation dissipates, you’ll need something else to rely on…

And that, my friends, is: DETERMINATION.

DETERMINATION is when you’ve made a conscious, deliberate decision, that you WON’T give up.

It’s knowing and understanding:

You WON’T always be at your best.

YOU WON’T always feel motivated.

You WON’T have it all figured out.

Be as it may…

You recognize the fact that your goals are worth the annoying ass struggle!! 😂

You’ve got this! STAY DETERMINED!!!

Don’t wanna turn yourself into a life size comic book character?

Well…..guess what?

You are in the majority. Not the minority.

90+% of my clients’ main priorities usually boil down to these three things: become healthier, stronger, and capable.

And sure. Clients want to change their physical appearance, too.

As I alluded to earlier, their reasons for training, tend to go a bit deeper.

It’s for themselves, and the people they love!
