One of the biggest things I try to teach my players is that every shot gives us information.

Good shot. Bad shot. Great round. Terrible round.

Something happened for a reason.

Instead of immediately asking, “Coach, what did I do wrong?” I’ll usually ask:

“What are the two reasons YOU think that happened?”

Because I don’t just want to teach someone how to hit a golf ball.

I want to teach them how to understand their own game.

That’s where improvement starts.

WE’RE GOING TO REGIONALS!!!

I could not be more proud to announce that Chambers Bay is sending TWO PGA Jr. League teams to the Regional Championship in Nampa, Idaho!

17U RED BULL

That’s 16 junior and their families who have earned the opportunity to represent Chambers Bay on the regional stage. With a chance to make it all the way to NATIONALS!

We need your help…

Between tournament fees, flights, hotels, rental cars, food and everything else, families can easily spend $2,000+ to give their child the opportunity they worked so hard to earn.

So I started a GoFundMe to try to help.

Whatever we raise will be divided evenly between all 16 families.

THIS is why I coach!!!

Seeing a leaderboard is cool. Seeing the names of kids you’ve had the privilege of working with on that leaderboard is even better!

But the scores aren’t actually the part I’m most proud of.

Nixon Dremousis. Caden Conley. Hy Lee. Weston Rimmer. Eric Roy Kim. Griffin McClure. Roy Choe. Corey Choe. Allison Gu. Myla Louch. Judson Bibee. Layna Louch. Avery Renggli. Megan Jen. Ava Pham. Ava Lee. Alina Wang.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with each of these young golfers in some capacity, and it has been an absolute privilege watching them grow. Not only as golfers, but as people too!

They compete. They work. They learn. They have fun. They support other players. And most importantly, they’re GOOD KIDS!!

Golf gives us a scoreboard, but development is about so much more than where your name finishes on it.

To see so many familiar names competing through the Washington Junior Golf Association makes this coach pretty darn proud.

Congratulations to ALL of you. Keep working. Keep competing. Keep being great teammates and even better people.

And a huge thank you to WJGA and Washington Golf for continuing to create opportunities for junior golfers throughout our state to compete, grow, and fall in love with this game.

One of my favorite chipping drills! ⛳️

We call it the High Jump Challenge.

All you need is:

• 2 alignment sticks
• 1 pool noodle from the dollar store

Start by trying to chip the ball over the noodle.

Every time you successfully clear it, raise the noodle a little higher. Keep going until you’ve reached the highest point you can clear consistently.

Once you’ve conquered the high jump, it’s time to learn the bump-and-run.

Switch to a club with less loft and try to keep the ball under the noodle. Every successful shot means the noodle moves lower and lower until it’s resting on the ground.

In one simple setup, juniors learn:
✅ How loft affects trajectory
✅ When to hit a high shot vs. a low shot
✅ Distance control
✅ Creativity around the greens

Simple. Fun. Competitive.

Sometimes the best coaching tools cost less than a cup of coffee.
