"This performance will explore topics like social oppression and depression through dance. I believe it's important to learn about the resources available to us. Watching the choreography being taught from beginning to end has been really exciting to me. By the end of this performance, I hope the audience feels encouraged to take a stand for a cause that's important to them."

The rehearsal process has been pretty good, the team works hard, and most are committed. We have a good group this year to up the ante from last year. The audience can expect a story. Meet Jaiana Eckles, GSU Dance Company member and GSU Student

"The themes that are being tackled in this show relates to our message "Rise Up: Truth to Power". Although they are all different they all define the theme of this show in various messages and forms. The dances are incredibly significant because they convey messages about our world from the past, present, and future. I can identify with the messages in these songs because they reflect situations I see, hear, or actually experience. Some highlights of being a part of this performance are the moments where the GSUDC can bond and learn the importance of togetherness. Some challenges are when tensions can rise at moments and everyone isn't on the same page. The audience can expect to see a powerful message and a great performance. I hope the energies excites them and brings them something to leave with."

Meet Marquis Parks, GSU Dance Company President and GSU Student

"RISE UP! Truth to Power is about unleashing your inner power and using it to fight against issues such as police brutality, body negativity, and bullying. These themes are important to me because as a black man that struggles with every one of these issues, I have found it hard to find an outlet to address my concerns. I would not want anyone to experience any of these situations, so I believe that we are doing a justice to society by raising awareness and advocating for change. [The audience] can expect some of the best performances that this school has ever seen. The talent on the company this year is remarkable! We have brand new choreographers with new visions and the audience is going to feel every moment of it. Cant wait to see you all there!"

Meet My'Anna Perdue

"This performance addresses the breakage of generational curses and social repetition. I believe it is a part of my purpose on earth to break the generational curses within my family, so that is why these themes are important to me. The audience should be prepared to embrace your emotions. Tears will fall and love will be exuded. Be open-minded and willing to empathize even if you've never experienced what will be displayed. Everyone can relate to this production; be ready to change your outlook on life."
