James Franklin found a way to drag Penn State right back into a conversation fans did not want reopened. That kind of comment lands hard in Happy Valley because the old frustration is still fresh, and people here know how long it takes to clean up a mess like that.

Now Matt Campbell has to keep the focus on building something steady while the noise keeps building around him. The recruiting board matters, the momentum matters, and every little win matters even more when this fan base is still waiting to see real proof.

Penn State’s interim head coach will remain on staff under newly hired head coach Matt Campbell, Athletic Director Pat Kraft confirmed in a statement on Friday night. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported he’s agreed to a four-year deal, half the duration of Campbell’s eight-year contract.

Sources: Penn State will retain interim HC Terry Smith on Matt Campbell’s staff.

Smith entertained interest from both UConn and Memphis, but his deep-rooted connection to Happy Valley and the Nittany Lion program informed his decision to stay.

I’m told current Penn State players were just informed of the decision as well in an 8:00 EST all-hands meeting.

After 56 day search, a home run hire.
Iowa State was too poor to outbid Penn State for Campbell.

He can coach football.m: Iowa State has a small recruiting footprint and Campbell recruited a lot of 2 star players to 3 and 4 star levels.
Hopefully he will prosper under Penn State’s much larger footprint.

We’ll see how his assistant coaches fall out.

Penn State made several coaches a whole lot of money in this process.

Way too much drama at the end of this process with secret recordings. etc At least it’s not Lane Kiffin drama.
