Penn State’s interim head coach will remain on staff under newly hired head coach Matt Campbell, Athletic Director Pat Kraft confirmed in a statement on Friday night. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported he’s agreed to a four-year deal, half the duration of Campbell’s eight-year contract.

Smith entertained interest from both UConn and Memphis, but his deep-rooted connection to Happy Valley and the Nittany Lion program informed his decision to stay.

Iowa State was too poor to outbid Penn State for Campbell.

He can coach football.m: Iowa State has a small recruiting footprint and Campbell recruited a lot of 2 star players to 3 and 4 star levels.
Hopefully he will prosper under Penn State’s much larger footprint.

We’ll see how his assistant coaches fall out.

Penn State made several coaches a whole lot of money in this process.
