Nassau County Games for the Physically Challenged In 2011, when funding was cut, Nassau County proudly stepped up to save the games and keep this wonderful tradition alive.

The Nassau County Games for the Physically Challenged offers physically challenged youth the opportunity to participate in competitive sports and recreation activities adapted to their abilities.. For 35 years, the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged brings athletes together from all over New York State to compete in a weekend long sporting event. Nassau County Empire State Games for

the Physically Challenged takes place at Mitchel Athletic Complex and Nassau Community College. Athletes compete in track and field, slalom, archery, swimming, wheelchair basketball and table tennis. Participants range in age from 5 to 21 years with disabilities including blindness, impaired vision, deafness, impaired hearing, spinal cord injuries, amputees and those who have cerebral palsy, dwarfism and other physical disabilities. There is no cost to athletes to participate and the number of participants continues to grow year after year. The dedication brought forth by the parents, families, teachers, coaches and volunteers are crucial to the success of these games. With a small staff, like a family, with the help of former athletes and their families volunteering for the games return year after year to a program they love.

This beautiful plaque was presented to me at the Athlete and Volunteer dinner dance on Saturday evening. Such an honor to be the one selected to receive it, but is truly meant for all of the committee heads and volunteers. While I organize and bring everyone together, it is the true labor of love that all of the volunteers bring to the Games to make it such an incredible and successful event. I couldn't ask for a better group of people to work along side of. A heartfelt thank you to all the amazing volunteers that dedicate their time to the Games!!! Love to all!! ❤️
