Why yoga? I play several sports recreationally including soccer, volleyball, cycling, running, and anything that would get me outside and moving with other humans. A few years ago, I started losing my competitive edge; maybe from aging, or perhaps from my growing waistline, but I found my performance declined, my recovery slowed, and instead of looking forward to active events, I would think first of how sore I would feel afterwards and questioned if the activity was worth it.
Sure, I tried the gym, bought home exercise equipment, and various apps and workout dvds, but could never follow a program consistently enough to make a difference. Until Yoga…
Many of my friends and teammates had similar complaints like I did, but were, (and some still are) reluctant to try Yoga. I wondered what I could do to help bridge the gap, and make yoga more accessible to my athletic friends who considered yoga not intense enough, and perhaps a little too weird for them to give it a try.
So I completed a 6 month, 200 hours yoga teacher training course with the awesome staff at BreatheNFlow Yoga, and spent countless more hours studying and practicing this craft that I am now happy (and qualified) to share!
Yoga is the perfect cross training for any sporting activity of your choosing, and is perfect also as a standalone full body workout even if you have never played a sport in your life and do not intend to. Yoga will improve your strength, flexibility, balance, alignment, focus and overall performance in any and all of life's challenges.
So, come try my Saturday morning Yoga class at the Omni Fitness Center in Uniondale. More than 90% of our students are new to yoga, and most do not play a sport at all. Classes are moderately paced, with clear instructions and demonstration of poses.
