This story and this man have been placed on my heart over and over again the last few days.
Often we hear these stories and they break all of our hearts but what do we do about it?
We complain, we pray, we say words of comfort, we blame people, etc but what do we do about it?
The baseball/softball community is a family. Families helping families, coaches helping coaches, kids helping kids but what I often don’t see is anyone helping our umpires.
In fact, the times we have as a team or even as a parent tried to help the umpires they politely say no. Not because they don’t want the water or apple or to stand in front off the fan, but because they are afraid of how it will look.
Will the other team think they are getting better calls or favortism because they sat in our dugout for shade or took a water from us?
Well I think it is all time we make a change!
This weekend and coming weekends I am challenging you (all of you) to show some UMPIRE LOVE!
I am challenging you to provide a water, an apple, some watermelon, a banana, some shade, a fan, and even a kind word!
I want you to take a picture with an umpire and brag about it! Brag about what nice thing you did for your umpires this weekend! Not because you need the credit but because this is a trend we want to catch on and let’s make our baseball/softball communities that much better!
