Meet the Team:
Leroy Upshaw (Head Guide and Land Manager)
Itās been five years since we last introduced the team behind Great Southern Outdoors, and a lot has happened since then. While our commitment to providing first-class hunting experiences has never changed, our team has grown, evolved, and stepped into new roles along the way.
Over the next several weeks, weād like to reintroduce the people who make Great Southern Outdoors what it is. From the guides who know every corner of these woods to the people working behind the scenes, each member of our team plays an important role in creating the experience our clients have come to know and love.
Weāre proud of the people who represent GSO, and we canāt wait for you to get to know them a little better. First up is one of the finest outdoorsmen we knowāLeroy.
From Leroy
Iāve been chasing game in Alabama since I was big enough to carry a gun, and the outdoors have shaped who I am ever since.
I harvested my first deer and turkey at just six years old, and from then on, I was hooked. Growing up, I spent countless hours alongside my dad training quail dogs and learning the values of hard work, patience, and respect for the land.
Iāll hunt just about anything, but chasing spring gobblers has always been my greatest passion.
Iāve been guiding hunters on and off since I was 18 years old, including time at Old Spring Hill Plantation, where I guided quail, deer, and turkey hunts. In 2019, I joined the team at Great Southern Outdoors, where Iāve had the privilege of helping create unforgettable hunting experiences for clients from all over.
My favorite hunting partnerāand without question my best oneāis my wife, Stephanie. Sheās harvested more trophy bucks and longbeards than most grown men, and thereās nobody Iād rather share a blind or the turkey woods with.
As a guide, my goal is simple: I want every hunter who steps into the woods with me to have the best opportunity for success. We put in the work, hunt hard, and do everything we can to make it happen. Sometimes the pieces fall perfectly into place, and sometimes they donātāthatās the beauty of free-range hunting. Being in the right place at the right time is part of what makes every successful hunt so rewarding.
A Word from Hunter Pritchett, Owner & Director of Operations
āLeroy is a tremendous asset to our team at Great Southern Outdoors. He has spent a lifetime in the outdoors and knows these woods, this land, and the game that calls it home. His knowledge of deer, turkey, hog, and quail hunting is second to none, and he has a knack for putting hunters in the best possible position for success.
More importantly, Leroy genuinely cares about the people he guides. He works hard, treats every client like family, and is just as invested in your success as you are. Heās the kind of man you want beside you in the woodsānot just because of what he knows, but because of who he is. Weāre incredibly blessed to have him on the GSO team, and I know our clients are in great hands every time they hunt with Leroy.ā
