If you're wondering why it feels like the whole world is on fire right now, like the news is just out of control, look up at the sky - it's on fire too. Right now, an unprecedented amount of planetary energy has gathered in the sign of fire, not for the purpose of pointless destruction, but to burn away everything false - a refining fire that burns to heal.

This moment has been building for eight years, ever since the wound first entered the fire when the asteroid Chiron - the wounded healer - crossed into Aries - the sign of fire - on April 18, 2018. It arrived into a world already wounded by Donald Trump’s ascension to power just eighteen months earlier, rising to the presidency amidst unprecedented scandal; the “grab them by the p*ssy” tape, Cambridge Analytica harvesting and weaponising our private clicks without our knowledge or consent, and Stormy Daniels telling the world what the most powerful man on earth had done in a private room and thought would stay there.

As the wound met the fire in the sky, down on the ground, the MeToo movement erupted and tore through every institution it touched. The same month Chiron walked into Aries in 2018, the New York Times and The New Yorker were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for their coverage of Harvey Weinstein, the Los Angeles District Attorney's office announced it was investigating a sexual assault allegation against Kevin Spacey, and Bill Cosby was convicted on three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault stemming from the drugging and molesting of a woman. With Chiron in the fire, the wound was suddenly everywhere.

Chiron is an oddity - it takes fifty years to orbit the Sun, so in theory it should spend two or three years in each sign, but its path is irregular, almost wilful, and it lingers where it's needed, so for whatever reason - or for every reason - it decided Aries needed eight years of its attention. Eight years of sitting in the fire waiting for backup, pointing at every abuse scandal, every moment a powerful person was revealed to have treated privacy as permission, every uprising, every reckoning, every time the culture lurched toward something and then retreated. Kavanaugh confirmed. Roe overturned. January 6. The wound kept surfacing in new forms and we kept trying to process it and couldn’t quite, because the wound needs heat to transform and the fire hadn’t reached the right temperature yet.

This month, the heat is finally here as the sky is assembling something that has no modern precedent. Seven celestial bodies gathered in the sign of the fire simultaneously; Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Neptune all joining Chiron, all pointing in unison at the wound that has long been rising for healing.
That explains this week’s news cycle - like the shocking news of 2018 saying hold my beer as the temperature suddenly ratchets up to unbearable.

Bombs falling across the Middle East. A strait still closed. The warrior energy with nowhere to go but outward. A looming energy crisis. A president attacking the Pope, posting images of himself as Jesus Christ, declaring himself the sacred masculine incarnate, the ego so inflated it can no longer locate its own edges.

A recently fired Attorney General defying a subpoena to testify about the alleged cover-up of the Epstein files, just days after the First Lady gave a bombshell speech denying ties to Epstein that only deepened the speculation - another private room, another architecture of secrecy, another set of powerful people insisting there is nothing to see here.

A devastating, horrifying news report about a site visited by 62 million men - a community built around the drugging of women, the erasure of consent, the treating of another human being’s selfhood as an inconvenience to be chemically removed - the same week a leading Democratic congressman - a man who built his public identity on decency, on accountability, on being one of the good ones - was exposed for running the same playbook in private. Multiple accusers, multiple investigations, and he was gone in seventy two hours.

The stellium in fiery Aries is not choosing sides, it’s just illuminating the structure of what this civilisation has called strength, what it built in private, and what it has sustained through silence and compliance and the armour of reputation. This is not the world going crazy - it’s the world finally catching up to where the sky has been pointing for eight years.

In the heat of a fire this intense, the collective reaches for the simplest explanation, and names the wound as men. We draw the line between perpetrator and victim and feel the brief relief of knowing which side we’re on. But Chiron in Aries is pointing at something deeper, older and harder to name: the self against itself.

It’s what happens to human beings - all of us, in different ways, at different costs - when fire is twisted into dominance, when strength is only legible as power over, when the private self learns that what it wants matters more than what another person is. The structure doesn’t only recruit men to maintain it - they’re not the only figures protecting the architecture of secrecy. The wound runs deeper than gender - it runs through everyone who has ever chosen power over truth, silence over exposure, the room over the person left outside it.

Since April 2018, Chiron in Aries has been repeatedly asking us - “What would fire look like if it wasn’t afraid?” What would the masculine principle - in men, in women, in culture, in politics, in the stories we tell about strength - look like if it didn’t have to dominate to feel real? What would a self look like that didn’t need to erase another self to confirm its own existence?

We haven’t been able to answer that question, because the fire wasn’t hot enough, but now with more energy gathered in the sign of fire than ever before in our lifetimes, the question is unavoidable, and our collective answer will rise one way or another.

Today, April 16, the Sun reaches exact conjunction with Chiron - the light finding the wound precisely, and the spotlight landing on exactly what has needed to be seen. Then tomorrow, April 17, the Moon arrives to join them at the New Moon in Aries - the feeling catching up to the light, the collective emotional body arriving at the wound point and planting a seed in an attempt to answer Chiron’s long-asked question.

And finally, this weekend, on April 19, Mars meets Saturn in the fire like a warrior meeting a wall. The impulse meets the consequence, and the fire meets the form, creating a forge point - not the destruction of something (though some things will not survive it) but the moment where what has been ruptured by eight years of Chiron’s pointing gets shaped by the fire into something that might actually hold.

We are not promised peace this week, and nor are we promised resolution. Mars-Saturn conjunctions are not gentle - they are the sound of metal on metal, the heat of the forge, and the moment where you find out what is being made. This is transformation, at the exact eight year anniversary of the wound entering the fire, as the sky assembles something it has never assembled in our lifetime, and the temperature is finally what transformation requires.

When the fire is this hot, every instinct says go outward - react, respond, repost, resist, rage. The world is burning and it feels like the answer must be out there somewhere, in the next headline, the next revelation, the next person to be exposed.

But Chiron has never pointed outward. It points in. The refining fire doesn’t need your reaction. It needs your attention - turned inward, toward the place in you that already knows what’s false, what’s been sustained by silence, what armour you’ve been wearing so long you’ve forgotten it isn’t your skin.

As we all face the fire this week, may we resist the urge to harden, and instead just let the fire do what fire does - burn away what was never true, so that what remains is only what is real.

Here we go, hand in hand, into the fire. We will find our way through, together.

The Moon's in Sagittarius today, a sign that ties together the Virgo Sun, Saturn in Pisces, and Jupiter in Gemini. These four signs help us to learn and discover the world. They help us to make meaning and seek purpose. They inspire existential questions.

For those who know a bit more about the technicalities of astrology, these four signs — Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces — form a "mutable cross". For those who don't know these technical terms, it's very simple. The zodiac has 12 signs and within this wheel, you can draw a square of four signs, all 90 degrees from each other.

There's the cardinal cross and the four signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. They are the axis of the four seasons as well as the four directions. They initiate change, much like a change of seasons. And life is inherently about the different seasons of life that we go through.

There's the fixed cross and the four signs of Ta**us, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. They are the axis of matter and the material world. They help to create stability and security. They also influence the physicality of our lives.

Then there are the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. These four signs are the axis of wisdom and knowledge. They help us to see outside of ourselves, to not only learn and communicate in the most elementary of senses, but to construct a larger framework in which we see the world.

But it's Pisces, the last mutable sign as well as the last sign of the zodiac, that helps us to find meaning and purpose, to fulfill our spirit, to turn our gaze inward after looking outward.

In the second half of 2024 and into 2025, the mutable signs are in the spotlight. What this means is that collectively and personally we are — true to the spirit of the mutable signs — trying to find meaning and purpose. It is both an outward quest, one supported by curiosity and learning, as well as an inward quest, shaped by seeking the answers to deep personal and spiritual questions.

We're a week away from a lunar eclipse in Pisces on September 17, one that will put us front and center with these personal and spiritual questions.

The thing about personal and spiritual questions is that they are inherently subjective. They cannot be measured or quantified. They are driven by feeling and subtlety as well as our own experiences.

I talked more about Pisces, the mutable signs, and the eclipses in my video for September 9-15, 2024. You can watch the replay on YouTube and Spotify.

If you are in AUSTRALIA or NZ, this forecast applies approximately for September 11, 2024.
