We are a sanctioned (Historic) Motorcycle Club of the American Motorcycle Association, joining them in 1932. was the 117th club chartered by the A.M.A. As of March of 1990 35 clubs remain charted with numbers 1-117 according to A.M.A. We are the oldest club in Ohio that remains chartered with the A.M.A. The Yellow Jackets Motorcycle Club was formed in 1929 by a group of young gentlemen from Uhrich
sville, Dennison, Dover and New Philadelphia, Ohio as well as a few surrounding places in Tuscarawas County. With the love of life and motorcycling on their minds the Y.J.M.C. was born. After joining the A.M.A. and becoming sanctioned in 1932 they incorporated into a non-profit organization in 1938. Club meetings were held at several locations over the beginning years, but one address that is documented was the clubhouse at 208 N. Wooster Ave. in Dover, Ohio in 1942. Our club records from 1929-1940 are few and incomplete with little to no documented proof of membership outside of a few pages from old minutes and from pictures which we still posses. The oldest minute books in our possession date back to December 16th, 1937. In 1948, membership had grown and the club voted to purchase a 64 acre plot of land on Indian Hill Rd. in Uhrichsville. The first clubhouse was built that same year which was a pre fabricated building that was purchased from Sears and Roebuck Co. then in 1950 a new larger clubhouse was built leaving the old one to become a storage building. By 1959, membership was growing and the members decided that they wanted to become active in the world of competitive motorcycle racing, so it was voted that 2 tracks would be constructed on club property. A 65 acre Hare Scramble track and a TT track as well as a refreshment stand were laid out by Bob Hemmiger (Owner and Operator of Hemmiger's Harley-Davidson) Hugo Mathias and Otis Simions and were built by members, families and friends. The use of all heavy equipment needed to complete the project was donated by the Central Ohio Tractor Co. The first sanctioned races at Yellow Jackets Indian Hill Raceway were held during the 1960-61 racing season. Yellow Jackets Indian Hill Raceway has seen and enjoyed many years of racing but due to rising insurance and operation cost, sadly the club hosted its final race in 1987 an in June of 1992 the back 50 acres of club property were sold off for mining purposes. After the 50 acres were sold, the club voted to erect a new 30'x60' clubhouse and the existing clubhouse was destroyed and a new one built in its place. Now with the need for a means to support the operating cost and upkeep of a bigger clubhouse,
the club sponsored fish fry's every other weekend as well as a monthly poker run over the next 5 years which became very popular among locals. As a club we loved sponsoring these events but it became too much work for members and cut into club riding time, so the we voted to stop doing these events regularly. In November of 1997 approximately 3 acres were sold to our club Secretary & life member Greg "Smitty" Smith, our current 24'x24' clubhouse was built and the 30'x60' clubhouse and remaining acreage on top of the hill were sold. With nothing changed in the fact that our club is still all about the love of riding, family and friends, we choose to accentuate quality over quantity. It is not an easy task to become a Yellow Jacket and when it's achieved, it is a position to be cherished and held with pride. We have a great family of members and are driven to only recruit like minded individuals to join our family. You must be invited by a full patch member to be considered to become a hang around. From the beginning to the present day, the Y.J.M.C. members strive to make the Yellow Jackets the best M.C. around and always will.
