This year's event will be a casting competition only. No vendors will be on site. We will have some amazing casters competing from as far away as Japan. The event is open to the public to watch, or participate, free of charge. The date of the event is Saturday August 8th and the location is the field between the Bellwood Antis High School and the Elementary school at 400 Martin St, Bellwood, PA 16617.
There will be two adult divisions and a youth division for casters 17 and under. The Open Division is for experienced casters who want to compete against the best of the best. The Angler's Division is for less experienced casters who may be casting in their first competition. The top three scorers in each division will be awarded a medal. The overall top scorer will be named as the event champion and have their name engraved on the Keystone Classic trophy. This is a fun event and a great way to increase your casting skills or learn more about the wonderful sport of competitive fly casting.
Rules:
Caster can use any fly rod up to 9'1" in length. Any line weight rod is permitted. Rods will be available for use in the competition if needed or preferred. All casters must us a Scientific Anglers Mastery Expert Distance 5wt line. These lines for the competition will be provided. The competition is composed of two parts, distance and accuracy. For the distance portion casters will make up to 3 practice casts if preferred and then 4 official scoring casts. We will count the two best casts for a distance point total.
The accuracy portion will consist of 5 targets approximately 30" in diameter placed at random, unmarked distances from as close as 20' to as far as 55'. Casters will start "fly" in hand and make a cast at each target starting with the closest and proceeding to each longer target. After casting at the furthest target, the caster will strip line back in and start again fly in hand. They will then make one cast at each target starting with the furthest target and working back towards and finishing with the closest target. A point value will be awarded for each target hit and added for an accuracy total. The accuracy and distance totals will be combined for a total score.
