Please see the below note from coach Tim. Many of you know him and many others do not. What you may not know is that every judoka that entered Westosha Judo benefitted from Coach Tim and his 23 years of teaching and mentoring. I started my second career In Judo at the Gurnee Judo Club in 2004?. I grew as a player and Sensei and was encouraged to start a club which expanded those who were impacted by coach Tim’s teachings. There are countless youth ( many now adults) who have been impacted directly or indirectly including several national champions, multiple black belts and an Olympian. I encourage you to share your appreciation to Coach Tim and the Gurnee Judo Club. If you do not have his contact information, please share your thoughts here and I will make sure that he receives it.

From coach Tim:
My house and the judo club building have been sold. Sadly, after 23 years, this Tuesday, August 9th, will be our last Gurnee Judo Club class.

It is with heavy heart that I share this news. Sensei Paul Armetta was a huge part of Westosha Judo and will be missed but his teaching, insight, and passion will live in the hearts and minds of his students and fellow instructors.

Share Memories & Support the Family.

Judo Club Closing
Westosha Judo Friends and Family.
After much consideration, we will be closing Westosha Judo after 13 years. There are many factors besides COVID-19 but it is what has hastened this decision as we have not been able to practice for several months and gave us a lot of time to think about our next chapter. Christine and I are planning to do more travel and prepare for retirement but will still be involved in the community and support youth activities.
We are still looking at some options. Ideally, someone would take over the lease and use the equipment as is - perhaps have Judo, Jujitsu or other activities for youth. If not, we will try to sell the equipment.
Thanks to so many of you that have supported us over all or part of these 13 years. We know that there have been lifelong friendships formed via the club and hope that every one of the hundreds of students that we have had over those years has benefitted in some way.
I will be reaching out individually to those of you that have continued to make payments or have substantially supported us to see how we might be able to remunerate you.
Please know that this was a difficult decision to make. You all have been a big part of our lives and we appreciate your support and friendship. We have felt true community with all of you.
If you have any questions, please give me a call.

Adult Work/workout Thursday at 6:30!

All, I will be at the dojo Thursday at 6:30 to put some things in place to work towards reopening. We will do some light excercise or conditioning. Note that we should all wear masks in part to see if it is feasible to excercise with a mask on. We will have a quick screen before starting as well.

Let me know if you have any questions via messenger or text.

Regards,

Rhett
