I can't say enough great things about Blue Buoy Swim School in Tustin! From day one, the entire staff has been welcoming, professional, patient, and genuinely invested in helping kids become confident swimmers. A special shoutout to Johnny, who has done an incredible job developing my 3-year-old son, and Lucas, who has been outstanding with my 4-year-old daughter. Watching both of my kids grow in confidence, improve their swimming skills, and become more comfortable in the water has been amazing. What really sets Blue Buoy apart is the instructors' ability to connect with young children. They make learning fun while still challenging the kids to improve. As a parent, there's nothing better than seeing your children excited for swim lessons and knowing they're developing skills that will last a lifetime. The entire Blue Buoy team deserves recognition for creating such a positive learning environment. We're extremely grateful for Johnny, Lucas, and everyone who contributes to our kids' progress. We've been coming to blue buoy for our 3&5 year olds for around 6 months. Coaches Lucas, Rachel, and Turner have been just amazing. The coaches challenge them each lesson to each child's' ability (not an arbitrary lesson milestone) so they've continued to make excellent progress each week.The entire staff is very water safe, with water watchers and safe 2:1 swimmer ratios. Could not recommend this school more!

Six boys. Two heats. And when the judges looked at their cards, they couldn't split a single place at the top of this race.

Evan Williams β€” 18.11. First race of his life. No seed time, nothing on the board, nobody expecting a thing. He got on the blocks in Heat 1 and swam it like he'd done it a hundred times.
Kieran Pontius β€” 18.29. Heat 2. Another personal best, and here's the thing about Kieran β€” he has improved every single time he has swum this race. 26.05 at the start of the season. Then 18.67. Then 18.57. Now 18.29.
Nearly eight seconds off his 20 Free in one summer. πŸ”₯
Eighteen hundredths of a second between them, in two different heats. The judges called them both first.

Elijah Guzman β€” 22.87. Not his day, and every swimmer has one. But his season says plenty: 22.07, then 22.06 at Meet 2 β€” a personal best by one hundredth of a second πŸ˜„ β€” then all the way down to 20.28. He'll be back.

We took a break around the pandemic, and they were great enough to honor lesson credits we had as makeup lesson options.The instructors are great and cater to the skills and comfort level of each student. Many of the instructors have worked there since we started, which demonstrates that they are a great place to work and be around.

πŸ† EVENT 6 β€” BOYS 20 FREE | Meet 6, 2026

Only two boys have held the Blue Buoy record in this event all season. On Saturday they swam next to each other, lanes 3 and 4, in the last heat of the year β€” and the judges couldn't separate them.

Benjamin Killin owned it from the opening meet: 21.07 in June, then 20.71. Then he missed two meets, and Sebastian Meichtry took it from him β€” 20.28 at Meet 3, then 19.87 at Meet 4. Ben came back at Meet 5 and took it right back with an 18.16.

So the only two boys who have ever held this record came into the final meet side by side.

Ben touched at 17.73. Sebastian at 17.85.

The judges awarded them both 1st place. πŸ₯‡πŸ₯‡

And that 17.73 is a new meet record β€” Benjamin broke his own. Which is exactly what his brother Xander Killin did in Event 4 the same afternoon. Two Killin brothers, one meet, two records, both taken off themselves.

Before Saturday, no boy in this event had ever been under 18 seconds. Two of them did it in the same heat, and finished tied.

⚑ And that still wasn't the biggest swim of the day.

William Reynolds got in with a best of 34.01 and went 20.97. Thirteen seconds. Out of the first heat, and it still put him 3rd overall in the whole event.

8 of 11 boys swam personal bests. A few worth naming:

πŸ”Ή Mark Molokov has improved at every single meet he's raced β€” 34.15 β†’ 31.00 β†’ 30.70 β†’ 28.37. Four for four.
πŸ”Ή Konnor Henry went slower at Meets 3 and 4 and kept showing up anyway. Saturday he broke 27 seconds for the first time: 26.49.
πŸ”Ή William Harvey has dropped time every time he's swum this race: 30.59 β†’ 28.59 β†’ 26.33.
πŸ”Ή Bentley Maxwell opened this season at 1:18.51. He's now more than thirty seconds faster.
πŸ”Ή Hugo Magdaleno (58.29) and Anders Amran (36.91) raced for the very first time. Getting on the blocks that first time is the hardest thing in this sport.
