Our Ready to Fight Parkinson's-specific Boxing Program is the official therapy-boxing program of USA Boxing.

Exercise has been shown to improve physical function, quality of life, cardiovascular fitness, cognition and balance for individuals with Parkinson's. Boxing exercises are particularly well-suited to address the specific symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

For those with Parkinson’s disease, exercise is a vital component to maintaining balance, mobility and activities of daily living. Research shows that exercise and physical activity can help maintain and improve mobility, flexibility and balance in additiont to easing other, non-motor, PD symptoms such as depression.

Our non-contat boxing program is a fun and effective way to stay healthy and reduce the impact of Parkinson's symptoms.

Fascinating article on new research.

"Our hypothesis is that there's another circuit that's intact, and that this circuit isn't affected in Parkinson's disease," Peter Strick, chair of neurobiology and scientific director of the University of Pittsburgh Brain Institute.

Strick's team believes this other circuit can be switched on by strong emotions, including positive ones.

"It's engaged by our sense of reward, by the joy of doing something," he says.

The symptoms of Parkinson's disease can vanish briefly in the face of stress or a strong emotion. Now scientists are searching for a treatment based on this phenomenon, a form of the placebo effect.
