STOP ARGUING WITH YOUR COACH!

I had a conversation today about nutrition, and it reminded me why so many people struggle to lose body fat.
Someone told me they were going to eat a bunch of potatoes every night because they get hungry. My response was simple: if your goal is to lose 10, 15, or 20 pounds, that is probably not the best solution.
Before anyone gets upset, I like potatoes. I eat potatoes. Potatoes are not the enemy.
The problem is that most people aren't eating a measured serving of potatoes. They're eating a large baked potato loaded with toppings, multiple potatoes, French fries, potato salad, or some combination that quickly turns into hundreds of extra calories.
If you're trying to change your physique, hunger management matters. Calories matter. Macronutrients matter. Being in a caloric deficit matters.
When someone is hungry at night, there are usually better options. Lean protein, vegetables, increased water intake, better meal timing, and making sure protein intake is adequate throughout the day will generally do far more for fat loss than loading up on starch before bed.
You cannot out-argue physiology. If you're consuming more calories than you're burning, progress slows or stops. It doesn't matter how much you convince yourself that the potatoes are helping.
The goal is not to justify habits. The goal is to achieve results.
If you need to lose body fat, stop looking for reasons to eat more food and start looking for ways to improve compliance with your nutrition plan. That's where results are found!
