What an exciting Week 2 across the San Joaquin Valley Youth Football League!

We saw some great matchups, big plays, hard-fought games, and plenty of heart from our athletes. 💪🏽🏈 The season is just getting started, and the competition is already heating up!

🏈 WEEK 1 FOOTBALL REMINDERS 🏈

As we head into Week 1, please make sure all players are game-day ready! These are equipment and uniform items that officials may penalize and/or require a player to leave the field until the issue is corrected.

🏈 MOUTHPIECES

• Nothing may hang or dangle from the mouthpiece — including chains, charms, pacifier-style attachments, etc.
• Mouthpieces may not display hate speech, profanity, or derogatory slurs/language.

🏈 BACK PLATES

• ALL back plates must be completely covered by the jersey.
• No exceptions!

🏈 KNEES & KNEE PADS

• Knees must be covered.
• Football pants cannot be pulled up above the knees.
• Knee pads must be in place.

🏈 FACE PAINT / EYE BLACK
Only the following are permitted:

• One single line under each eye OR
• One single cross under each eye

🏈 SWEATBANDS

• Sweatbands must be worn for their intended purpose.
• Multiple bands worn up and down the arms or legs are not permitted.

🏈 VISORS

• Visors must be CLEAR.
• No tinted, colored, mirrored, or iridescent visors/films.

⚠️ COACHES & PARENTS: Please check your athletes before they take the field. Taking a few minutes before the game to make sure everyone is compliant can prevent unnecessary penalties, delays, or players being sent off the field to correct their equipment.

📣 NEW SJVYFL ZERO-TOLERANCE POLICY

The San Joaquin Valley Youth Football League has implemented a Zero-Tolerance Anti-Discrimination, Harassment, Derogatory Language & Respect Policy for all coaches, program volunteers, officials, parents, and spectators.

Racial slurs, discriminatory statements, harassment, and seriously derogatory or demeaning language will not be tolerated at any SJVYFL game, practice, event, or league-related activity.

Coaches and program leaders are held to a higher standard as role models for our athletes. Jokes, frustration, or claiming there was no intent to offend do not excuse inappropriate conduct.

⚠️ DISCIPLINARY ACTION MAY INCLUDE:

• Immediate removal from a game, practice, or league activity
• Formal reprimand
• Suspension from league activities
• Mandatory League Commissioner review
• Removal from coaching or volunteer duties
• Loss of participation privileges
• Permanent removal for serious or repeated violations

All reported incidents will be reviewed by the League, and discipline will be determined based on the circumstances and severity of the violation.

🏈 SJVYFL RULE REMINDER: SPORTSMANSHIP & PLAYER CONDUCT 🏈

As we move forward with our season, the San Joaquin Valley Youth Football League wants to clarify a rule regarding Noncontact Unsportsmanlike Conduct by Players.

This is not a new rule or a new standard for our league. SJVYFL has always followed CIF standards and NFHS Football Playing Rules, including NFHS Rule 9-5 — Noncontact Unsportsmanlike Conduct by Players.

Under this rule, players may be penalized for conduct including:

• Baiting or taunting through words or actions
• Profanity, insulting, or vulgar language or gestures
• Words or actions intended to embarrass, ridicule, provoke, or demean another person
• Racial slurs, discriminatory language, or other seriously derogatory conduct

🏈 THE PENALTY

An unsportsmanlike-conduct foul carries a 15-yard penalty.

A player who receives a second unsportsmanlike-conduct foul during the same game is disqualified from the game and the team will receive a 15 - yard penalty.

Conduct determined to be flagrant may result in immediate disqualification.

Officials are responsible for enforcing NFHS playing rules on the field. Our coaches and organizations are responsible for teaching our athletes what those rules mean and holding them accountable for their behavior.

ZERO TOLERANCE FOR RACIAL SLURS

We want to be especially clear: racial slurs and discriminatory or seriously demeaning language have no place in youth football.

It doesn’t matter which team you play for, who you’re playing against, what the score is, or how competitive the game becomes. Our athletes are expected to compete with character and respect.

Youth football is about more than wins and losses. We are helping develop young athletes and teaching lessons about accountability, sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, and respect that extend far beyond the football field.

We ask every coach and parent to help us reinforce these expectations with our athletes.

The San Joaquin Valley Youth Football League is taking over Golden Valley High School THIS SATURDAY, August 15th, for a FULL DAY of youth football scrimmages!

From our 8U athletes kicking things off at 9:00 AM to our 14U teams closing out the afternoon, the fields will be packed with football all day long! 💪🏈
