The whip is all clean and ready for masters nationals crit on Sunday. This will be my second to last race of the year. With all the major changes (moving across the country and career) this year, tacking on planning a wedding, and the season starting so much earlier in this area than we’re used to it is time.
I’ve been stoked to line up once again in the colors this season and more stoked to help the team at some big CRITS this year whether it’s been behind the handlebars or from the sidelines. Such a good, tight-knit group of dudes who really are more like a family than a team. It’s tough coming to the realization that one is getting older and even if your fitness is great, the “shark brain” you need to be successful in the elite fields of these races comes less and less. Instead you get thoughts of “these damn kids”, “why would you do that”, and best of all “yeah, I don’t need this sh*t”. Thank god there are masters fields for when those thoughts do creep in. I love preaching the PE mission and what this team and organization stand for and will never stop pushing this message. Racing for a cause bigger than yourself is incredibly rewarding, especially when it hits close to home for you as PE’s veteran mission does with me.
I’m still stoked to race, but and I have some fly fishing and camping to do in the meantime. I’m already eager to start the work towards next year; a little more settled and a little more grey.
I can’t thank my better half (Mal Mal), , , , , .like.to.ride.my.bicycle and the rest of the guys for being there and chatting when I needed it, even if they didn’t realize it.
So, with all that out the way, I can’t wait to rip this through some fast turns with some fast dudes this weekend. It’s going to be rad.
