08/27/2026
Our first Happy Hour of 2026, held at Public House, was fun, enjoyable, and appreciated by all who attended. Many thanks to Renee for organizing the event.
This message will focus upon several operational items that all Chapter members need to be aware of, as well as providing some information about achievements and upcoming events. I will start with the news and information followed by the operational items.
TUCSON TEAM PROCEEDS to NATIONALS
Kudos to the team of Joan Chyall, Cathe Kropp, Janice Mihora and Christine Smith who competed in the Regional Qualifiers at Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos, CA on August 14 & 15. They qualified and will be going to Nationals in Mesquite, Nevada on October 23 & 24, representing our Chapter. Please join me in congratulating them. This is a big deal. Going to Nationals is both an honor and a major achievement.
DESERT DOVE
The registration for Desert Dove will open later this month. The dates are November 13 &14 at the Rancho Mañana Golf Club in Cave Creek. Even though registration is not yet open, I would encourage you to secure nearby housing soon. Lindy, the President of the Phoenix Chapter, has suggested the following:
1. Hilton Vacation Club at Rancho Manana
2. Hampton Inn, Carefree
3. Prickly Pear Inn, Carefree
4. Civana, Carefree
5. Boulders Resort, Scottsdale
6. Holiday Inn North, Scottsdale
7. Home 2 Suites by Hilton, Scottsdale
8. Residence Inn by Marriott, Phoenix
CHAPTER ELECTION
Our Chapter adopted the "Reduced Board" management option several years ago. As a result, the position of President in our Chapter is the only position which requires a vote of the membership. It is expected that ballots will be sent out in September. Please VOTE when you receive the ballot. Our Nominating Committee of Joan Chyall and Jill Taylor will be sending out the ballots and tabulating the results.
LATE CANCELS and NO SHOWS at "PAY at COURSE" EVENTS
As you know, our Chapter has an "Event Refund Policy" . This policy applies to all events where the registration fees are paid online. This policy is fair and works well.
Unfortunately, the Chapter has run into some unexpected difficulties with some "pay at course" events. Usually, our Chapter must confirm the number of players for these events one week in advance. The course then reserves the needed number of tee times. The course, then, expects to earn green fees for the confirmed number of players. Some late cancels are unavoidable, e.g., illness, which most courses understand; however, other late cancels and no shows are not viewed as okay. We were informed that in the future, our Chapter may be charged for no shows and late cancels. Consequently, our Board will be developing a policy to deal with this eventuality. Clearly, our Chapter cannot pay the greens fees for late cancels and no shows. Equally clear is the need for our Chapter to maintain positive relationships with area golf course. Negotiating reasonable rates and desired dates and tee times is highly dependent upon maintaining excellent Chapter-Golf Course relationships.
MONDAY LEAGUE at DORADO
The Monday League at Dorado has ended. Many thanks to Karen Bidegain for coordinating the league. Thanks also to the members who were able to participate. Karen reported that overall participation was low, primarily due to the heat.
This is the second summer that our Chapter has attempted to offer a casual, summer league. In both cases, the heat won out. As a result, the Board will be looking at other options for the summer of 2027.
Our next event will be held at Arizona National Golf Course on September 12. Please sign up early.
See Sheila's email of Thursday August 13 for the registration link or visit our website. I look forward to seeing you there. If you have any questions or comments, please let know.
