The Uwharrie River along the Grand Overland District can be really high at flood stage or really low as in periods of drought as we're having now. Be sure to check your safety gear and water levels before paddling. If you plan on overnight primitive camping at Ledger Shoals Stone Picnic area of the Grand Overland, you must have a reservation. June, 2025, down by the Uwharrie River on the Grand Overland, we celebrated the life of Kathryn " Kat " Cerrito. She was a dear friend to many, a wonderful wife, a family person, a teacher, and an Administrative Coordinator for OEX (a 4x4 training group that leases the Grand Overland District).

Her life touched many. She was a gift from our Heavenly Father to all who knew her. She was the southern friendly face of the NC OEX operation. She will be tremendously missed. She was the glue that held the training program & the Grand Overland District farm together for the last 7 to 8 years. Her short life reminds us of how we must treasure each day God gives us to live on this beautiful earth.

The most important thing I can say about Kat's life is that we 'know' she is in heaven forever, and how very important it is for each of us who grieve her loss to prepare for our eternal Season of Everlasting Life, not by good works, but by acceptance of Christ as our Savior. May her memory be a blessing to all that knew her.
