Semi-annual social media post coming in hot! These are the shortest days of the year but we have our sights set on summer days. This past season we experienced several of the most drenching summer days in many years, good for fish and forest alike. It has continued. As we go into the New Year, we’ve had our fill of water(40 inches of precipitation since October 1 in the high country), but finally snow is falling. Reach out to get on the books or talk trout! Some scenes from this last season with friends old and new on the Kootenai in MT & ID. Happy Holidays everybody-

The is currently very big but fishable. She’ll be coming down to summer flows starting mid June. Bigger tributaries to the Kootenai are fishing well and dropping fast, maybe a week left to float. Shout out to my Indiana truckers taking full advantage of the possibilities (salmonflies) during run off.

Rita here, hijacking this feed to shout out Happy Birthday to our fearless leader. Johnny likes to say he’s just a fishing guide, but I’d exhaust the word count with all the hats he wears besides.

They’re all the hats you’d need to build yourself a home in the wilderness with no outside help, or successfully run two fishing lodges on a tiny off-grid island in the Yucatan.

He is also a teller of truths - whether you like it or not - a fierce and loyal friend to those he claims, a withering critic of those he does not, & possessing of the sharpest humor and wit you’ve ever cut yourself on. He’ll get your cast straightened right up, too.

Love you Juanito.

Pre-runoff trips are in the books. Mid-late April Kootenai River fishing was outstanding and the May trips on the Missouri River were lights out with low flows. Thanks to all who joined us.

Snowpack sits at 210% on June 1 for the Kootenai River basin. We are in full release mode out of the dam and tributaries are pumping. We will now wait patiently for tributary flows to get fishable.
