🔴 The Timber Beast Disc Golf Course is still closed for the time being. More info below 🔴

We had another very productive workday yesterday!! It’s starting to look like a disc golf course in a city park again!! The crew of volunteers cleaned up the green of hole 2, the new greens on holes 7 and 10, and cleaned up the fairway of 18 a little, too!

The course is still closed. The City will be in there removing the 3-4 log trucks worth of saw logs early this week. They will also be removing the piles of slash and debris piled by the volunteers this weekend. The course should reopen once they are all wrapped up hopefully by this coming weekend.

To put the amount of work that has happened down there so far into perspective - the City has already hauled about 20 dump trucks of slash and debris from the course. This is in addition to the 70 dump truck loads that the County has hauled out. Thank you to the City of Troy, the County, and all the volunteers working so hard to clean the Timber Beast up!! All of your efforts are greatly appreciated!!!

It was a very productive day at the Timberbeast! A motivated crew of volunteers cleared the green of hole 5, collected and piled up the debris on holes 6, the first half of 7, 10, and 11.

We’ll be back at it tomorrow beginning at 10:00. We’ll be cleaning up hole 2, a little more on hole 3, the green of 7 and the green of 10.

Thanks to Dulcie and Avery for cooking lunch! We’ll have lunch for everyone tomorrow, too.

We’ll see you at the Beast tomorrow!

Hope to see a few people at the Timberbeast for the workdays starting at 10:00 both days this weekend! Whether you can make it out all weekend or for just an hour, we would really appreciate any help. With a good showing we can make a big impact in the course!

More info on the workdays can be found at https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1bRCZAJpsq/?mibextid=wwXIfr

I’m finally getting to see the course first hand and it is impressive to see the amount of work that has been accomplished on the course this week. Holes 7, 8, the green of 10, and 11 received the most damage but most of the big stuff has been stacked and/or removed already. Huge Thank You to both the City and County for their efforts!!!

We’ll be picking up smaller debris on holes 6, 7, and 11 tomorrow. It has all been bucked up, we just need to collect and pile it so the equipment can easily remove it next week.

Burgers with all the fixings will be grilled at lunch. And free camping is available in Roosevelt Park for all volunteers this weekend.

And to give everyone a little bit of hope - while the area affected is pretty devastated, the rest of the course is pretty much unchanged. Holes 1,2 and 12 - 18 saw very little damage! Things will look different for a while, but the Timberbeast will heal and evolve! 🫈💪

*** Updated Workday Information ***

A lot of progress was made today thanks to crews from the City and County!! Things are being cleaned up faster than we thought possible! Therefore we will be hosting public workdays on both Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 to cleanup as much of the smaller debris as we can.

We’ll begin work at 10:00 AM both days. Bring gloves, rakes, wheelbarrows, and a friend!

Burgers and hotdogs will be provided for lunch.

See you this weekend at the Timberbeast!!

***. For now the course is still closed. We ask that people stay away as there will be big equipment operating there for the next couple of days.

A quick progress report on the work being done at the Timberbeast following last week’s storm.

Mike Wallace has been at the course daily sawing logs and opening up fairways. Big Thanks to Jeremy Husentruit, Scott Wardian, and a couple of others for their help!!!

An excavator will be onsite today to start removing some of the bigger debris. Crews from both the City and County will be onsite with excavators and dump trucks later this week through next week to continue removing large debris.

The big equipment should be done with their work by the end of next week at which point it will be safe for people to come out and lend a hand. A public workday is tentatively scheduled for next Sunday, June 14. Any and all are welcome and encouraged to come out and help with the cleanup efforts!!! More info will be posted as it gets closer.

** Edit: We’ll be hosting workdays on Saturday June 6 and Sunday June 7 beginning at 10:00 AM. Bring gloves, rakes, wheelbarrows, and a friend!

For now the course is still closed and we ask people to keep clear of the area. While we very much appreciate all of the offers to help, there are still too many hazard trees creating safety concerns to allow for the general public to be onsite at this time.

Our beloved Timberbeast course sustained considerable damage from the wind storm on Thursday night. Many of the large trees in the corner of the course containing holes 2-11 came down and three baskets were destroyed.

The course is currently closed until things can be cleaned up. Please stay away from the disc golf course until it is reopened.

Thanks to support from the City of Troy, cleanup work has already begun!! Mike Wallace, Jeremy Husentruit and others will begin cutting fairways open today with excavators already scheduled to come behind them to remove logs and debris later this week and the following week. Once the large debris has been removed, we’ll put the word out for an all hands on deck work day to pile and/or remove smaller debris.

The City has assured us that they will help do what it takes to make sure that the Timberbeast Challenge happens as planned on June 20th. The course will look quite a bit different, but it will be playable for the event! We look forward to seeing all of our disc golf family in Troy to celebrate 20 years of the Timberbeast on June 20th!

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to Mike or myself to offer their support! The disc golf community is an amazing group of people and we appreciate all of you!!!!
