It's been a very long process to find a lesson "home".
I am still searching, although I'm still happy to travel to help you!
My #4 barn I was hoping for, that led me on for 2-1/2 years, and has now decided to sell their farm.
So if anyone is interested in a versatile, safety-1st, balance seat instructor, I'm still here. I've started kids as young as 3-1/2. I've taken riders to Louisville & my 7 year old was 4th in the world. I've ridden 1000s of hours ba****ck in the mountains. And I have all that ready to give YOU. If you have room in your barn for 52 year's of knowledge, please let me know. I feel like I'm wasting all my experience. 😪
Call or email to [email protected] or text to 540-855-4383.
I would bring a lesson horse of my own & whatever else I need. Roundpen is a must for me. If you need references, I have many. Thanks for the read!

Vacation coverage prevents alot of animal people to vacation properly, and to simply just stay home due to lack of dependable & professional care. Show professionals & ranchers ESPECIALLY need a break. I can help with that! I can do it all. Don't skip a much-needed recharge this year, see if I can help first. Don't miss out on our awesome America!

Winter for horses doesn't have to be uncomfortable. A horse creates it's body heat from having enough to eat! Crimped corn can be added in moderation to create heat for horses kept outside. They really don't need a blanket most of the time in our area, unless it's an ice storm. Blankets mash their hair down, their natural insulation, and in fact might make them colder. We blanket pasture horses mostly because it makes US feel better. Grass hay should be fed free choice in extremely cold weather. If you feed 2x a day, at least add a flake or 2 to feedings, they will need the energy.

Memory photo of when I was working the show biz in Kansas. And work I did! But there's more to life than ribbons, it's the journey to help riders reach their personal goals that matters more to me now.

I've heard this question for many years...how do I learn to sit the trot? It's all in your seat & upper inner thighs. If you try to grip with your calves, you will lose your balance. This is a good example, though cantering, of extending your leg. Notice the contact points are as I mentioned, seat & inner thigh. Keep those heels down, that doesn't change! Your seat has to be relaxed. Think of a "hinge" in your back, that allows your lower body to move just like the horse. It goes wherever the horse does, and follows his rhythm. Your upper body remains still. This is also a secret to having quiet hands. I have specific exercises I teach that will help you feel it. In the meantime, ride ba****ck or without stirrups as much as you can! Don't concentrate very hard, you'll get in your own way. Enjoy yourself and don't be tense! Go only as fast as you're comfortable. You can feel this motion at a WALK, so start there!

Gaiting Saddlebred horses can be a complex process. But did you know that having a straight place to work them while they are learning, is important to keeping them SQUARE in their gait? They learn to go square (or not) from the beginning. It's one reason many old style barns had just an aisle to ride in, or a turnaround at the end. It's not just gaiting horses where it's important. Have you ever ridden a horse that wants to go crooked? Shoulder twisted, neck bent, or butt pushed away from the rail, for example. This is an avoidance trick, because it's easier for them to go crooked, than to go straight! Teach your horse to go down a straightaway correctly before introducing the arena, & don't rush the process. It may take many months for them to learn to go straight, since a horse's body is quite flexible, & you must keep them straight using your aids. This "fixes" some horses who go crooked down the arena rail. Having a place like this to work one, makes it easier due to having a physical barrier on both sides, but it's certainly still possible without this situation. Ride the arena rail to the corner & turn around. Important to go both directions.
